It is the desire of the Bureau of Mines Health and Safety Station to give its whole-heart- SAFETY UNIT The United State Bureau of mines maintains ten safety stations throughout the nation. These stations are situated in the heart of the mining sections of the country to aid in mine, rescue and safety work. Salt Lake has just been authorized as a center for this section. Dr. Dorsey J. Parker is the supervising engineer of the bureau and in charge of mine rescue and safety work in the west. The primary purpose of the Salt Lake Health and Safety Station is the preservation of life of, those engaged in quarrying, mining, metallurgical, petroleum and related industries. The work of the station is divided into four distinct lines of endeavor, so correlated, however, as to effect the most good for the several industries served. Instruction, investiemergency work, gations and the dissemination of information helpful in conserving health and preventing accidents among the ' mining, metallurgical, oil production employes. The station personnel is in a position to render, and cordially offers this. help to the several industries. A complete course of instruction in first aid, is given simple enough to be understood by any person having a knowledge of English, yet effective for caring for all types of industrial injuries. The course requires 15 hours of instruction-.an- d practical work and. is usually divided into five periods of three hours i co-operat- : co-opera- ion ed ion co-operat- to the mining industries of the state of Utah and to this end welcomes suggestions and recommendations with a view of increasing the efficiency and scope of its work. .
