DAN McGREW AND DAN McGRAW Now Dan McGrew, it is quite true, Was famed as a real bad guy, Whose guns blazed forth in the frozen north That the men from the creeks might die; But now it's said he 1b very dead, And no more will he sneer and mock; While Dan McGraw is within the law As he shoots out his picture rock." Recent Associated Press dispatches carried the story of the big gold strike near Dripping Springs, Arizona, where a ledge of 6100,000 ore Was- discovered by a veteran prospector named Dan McGraw. - A bunch of the boys were whooping it up, According to Service Bob, And Dangerous Dan was trimming a boob And doing a thorough job; The kid that tickled the ivories Was having a peaceful drink, When a man from the creeks came drifting in, Who looked like the missing link. The lady called Lou was looking about To see what rube she could vamp, And her eyes seemed to linger for quite a while On the face of this weary tramp In the buckskin shirt that was glazed with dirt, And she jumped when he hollered Hey! Set them up for the bunch of us How do you get that way? Well he set them up, and played a tune, And made his talk to McGrew; And the lights went out and they pulled their guns, An dsay, gents the bullets flew; They both went west but Lou went south With a poke of gold that was red Just from the blood of the man from the creeks, And Dangerous Dan was dead. This is the tale by Service Bob And it sounds as if it were true, Of the Yukon land and that bad, dead man, Called Dangerous Dan McGrew. Now Dan McGraw is a different guy, From that bad man Dan McGrew; For he doesn't go stealing from other men Their ladies well known like Lou; He doesnt play cards with an ice cold deck, Nor sneer at the desert rats; He doesnt shoot up the creeky men With a couple of snub nosed gats! This Dan McGraw is a prospector, And he played the game to the last, Taking a chance on far, dim trails, And the lure of the desert vast. He followed the gold trail year after year, 'Till it seemed that his race was done, But he took the breaks with the same old grins. And tried again and won.
