It has not been so very long ago when the Yankees led the entire world on the bicycle track. Then to think that we did not have one single winer at the Olympic games is cause for wonder. Nearly every worlds record made on the bicycle track is held by Americans, yet the sport has so dwindled the past three or four years that in open compet.tion we find ourselves entirely lest. Not one point was won in the bicycle races at the Olympics by an American rider. France carried off all the honors, with few points each. Years ago the bicycle racing game was promoted In this country becau e of the sport; today it is being promoted because of the money that can be made out of it and the result is that we are beginning to lose out. France has always produced many high class riders but never before were their riders able to show us up. The Belgian riders have also given good account of themselves in open competition. France added 41 points to her total, in the bicycle races, which greatly augmented her position among the winning leaders at the games. The United States athletes took the lions share of all prizes won, winning out in 45 events. Finlanders were a surprise at' the games and won second UNEQUAL DIVISION.
