Mont Ferry, chairman of the silver conference, has left for New York City to be present at the committee meetings to be held there and commiencing next Wednes Pan-Americ- an day, November 14. E. J. Raddatz, who was appointed one of the committee of fifteen on organization, left yesterday for New York. C. F. Kelly will he chairman of the committee which meets at the Waldorf-Astori- a hotel. This committee will draft a constitution for a silver export association, and the plans drawn up will he presented to the silver conference for its consideration, either to adopt them or reject them. Before leaving for the east Mr. Raddatz met with the Utah silver producers, w here there was an informal discussion of the proposed organization for marketing silver. . Mr. Ferry has every confidence that the present movement in behalf of silver will result in a great good for all silver producing mines, not only in the United States, hut elsewhere as well. If silver goes up in price here and a demand is created in foreign markets the while metal is bound to go beyond the dollar mark. If the European countries adopted silver as their medium of exchange instead of the present printing press, silver would be in demand the world over and the market so created would more than absorb the present outpur. of the metal. Ferry is one of the most prominent mining men of the west. He is managing director of the Silver King Coalition and the mine has tmade money under his supervision. Owing to his practical knowledge of the mining industry he easily fits in as chairman of the silver conference and if he remains in that position, those interested in the silver qeustion need not worry C because their interests will be directed to a successful culmination. If the loan of the additional water from the Jordan river can be obtained .the improvement program at the Jordan plant will be started as quickly as materials and machinery can be assembled. completed telephone calls dally, of which 1,523,000 are toll or long distance cals. The output of steel is a sure barometer in the business world. Steel is used today in the construction of nearly all our industries, and when the output is low it shows that there is a halt in improvements and the market is immediately affected thereby. Word comes from Germany that in a few years it will be entirely independent from the foreign oil market. Up to the present time there has been very little oil found in Germany and she imports all her motor oils from abroad. Now, however, chemists are extracting oil from coal and the claim is being made that about 1,800 pounds of oil can be extracted from two tons of coal by a newly discovered process. Germany is very rich in coal deposits, and thus she sees an easy solution of future oils. The cost of the coal oil is such that competition in the market can be had.
