Show THE CITIZEN f OUTSIDE PYPER RESIGNS. TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS RETURNS. CLOSE SALOONS. FOR HIGH SCHOOL PRIZES. Election returns from all parts of the country show no onesided upsets. As a rule Democratic communities went their way and Republicans held thefir own to a great, extent. There were reversals in some parts of the country. In Utah in cities outside of Salt Lake City, there seemed to be a happy division. It appears on the face of the election returns that in many Utah cities the candidates got together and divided the vote to suit themselves. It has left view, the state with a so to speak, and judging from the election returns one would be in a quandary as to whether Utah was a Republican or a Democratic state. As usual New York City went Dem-crati- c and the upstate districts went Maryland and KenRepublican. tucky, upon which states the Repub licans had heretofore gained considerable foothold, went Democratic. No Republicans were elected in. Mississippi. Vermont ran true to form and returned Republicans to office. At the present writing there is every indication that the presidential race a year hence will be a sensational one as well as a close one. A great deal depends upon what happens in the coutnry during the next nine or ten months. The United States senate remains Republican with 51 representatives to 43 Democrats and 2 Farmer-Laborite- s This gives the Republicans control if all the party leaders remain hitched. non-poltiic- al New York, October 27.
