Show TRUTH 2 presidential nominee, and Senator Doll- - glliiillliliillilililililAillAlimillAlAIIlimiPj ver of Iowa will reacITOgden on Thur. day, October G, and will speak there on The School Sea. recrow. The Tribune and the workers in the K. K. party are making a great noise about the public schools, as they say, being under Mormon domination. They hold up phantoms of the terrible fate of the school system if in the future Mormons should get complete control of the educational system. They declare that full control .is what the Mormons are aiming at with a teachview of driving out ers and making the schools vehicles for the inculcation of the Mormon faith. Canvassers for the K. K. party are making a great card of this and telling the people that unless they support the new party the schools will fall into the hands of these awful Mormons, who are represented dfc foes to education and bent on destroying the efficiency of our educational system. They say Gentile teachers are being let out and their places filled by Mormons. There is not a word of truth in any of those statements. They are fabrications pure and unadulterated The facts are that of the twenty-fivschool principals in the city, sixteen are Gentiles and nine are Mormons. Two new principals were appointed for this year, one a Gentile and one a Mornon-Morm- on e mon. In the West Side high school there are twenty-seveteachers, of whom are Gentiles and two are twenty-fiv- e Mormons. In the East Side high school there are nine teachers, all Gentiles. Eleven new high school teachers were appointed for the present school year, all Gentiles. Over 70 per cent of the teachers in the grade schools are Gentiles. These facts, and they are facts, show that the schools are not being Mormonized to any alarming extent. The superintendent of schools, Mr. Christensen, belongs to the Mormon faith, his secretary is a Gentile. The clerk of the board of education is a Gentile and so is his assistant. The board of education is equally divided between Mormon and Gentile. As a matter of fact, religion cuts no figure .at all in the employment of teachers or principals or any one connected with the schools. Merit and qualifications alone count. Mr. Christensen, the superintendent is broad and liberal in his views. In the conduct of his office he knows neither Mormon or Gentile. When he was applied to for infroma-tioas to the religious beliefs of the principals and teachers, he was unable to give it and Truth had to seek elsewhere for the information. The superintendent is about as far from being a bigot or a religious partisan as a man can be. In the face of fact like the above in regard to the religious standing of the teachers and officers of the schools, these malicious mischief makers deliberately spread false reports that Gentile teachers are being discriminated against, when the facts show that if things were conducted on .a basis of religion the Mormons "are being grossly discriminated against. Half the population of the city are Mormons and there are less than" 25 cent of Mormons employed .a ' per teachers, and the Mormon proportion growing less. What in the world no those chronic howlers want? Their actions lead to the conclusion that they want the Mormons to get off the earth. n n of the nominees on the Republican ticekt are Gentiles and as in the case f the schools the malcontents are yelling themselves hoarse about Mormon and influence church How long are the domination. decent Gentiles going to allow Two-third- s themselves to be fouled by a lot of dishonest scalawags and unprincipled scoundrels. The Tribune knows the facts about the schools as given above. The manager of the paper and one of his as- sistants very recently spent considerable time in getting the facts, but they didnt publish them. Not at all. Facts are not what the Tribune needs in its business. These Mormons are the most forebearing people in the world. Placed as they are with such a scandalous and unprincipled fight being made upon them, we would take every office in the state, schools and all, and tell the howlers to go to J J The Democrats are working this K K. movement to their own advantage and to the detriment of the Republicans to a finish. In fact, they are overdoing it and thereby likely to defeat their object. The leaders of the Democracy are by talk and action encouraging the new party and at the same time are straining every nerve to hold their own people solid for the Democracy. The new party, of course, will draw most of its strength from the Republicans, thereby giving the Democrats a great advantage. The foolish Republicans who go after false gods are not only not accomplishing anything on the line mapped out by the K. Ks., but are simply selling out their own party to the Democrats. It's about as senseless a procedure as can be imagined. On the part of the Tribune, it is an act of the grossest treachery. There is not a Gentile on the Republican ticket who was not urged by the Tribune to becom a candidate and the Tribune promised them its support and then in the most perfidious way it not only deserted them, but is strain ing every nerve to defeat them. It is a course unheard of in politics and one that cannot fail to receive its just reward. Retribution as sure to come. , j i It becomes daily more and more evident that the chief object of the Tribune is to throw the legislautre to the Democrats in order to defeat George Sutherland for the United States Kearns blames Sutherland for his undoing and will stop at nothing to glut his revengeful appetite. sen-atorshi- jt p. & Senator Fairbanks, Republican vice- - that day. On Friday morning, October 7, they will hold a meeting at Brigham City and in the forenoon of the same day will speak at Farmington. Early in the afternoon of that day they will reach Salt Lake and will speak in the Salt Lake theatre and also at an overflow meeting, so that those who fail to get into the theatre will have an opportunity to hear them. They will leave Salt Lake for Evanston in time for a meeting there in the evening. They will be in charge of the Republican state committee in Utah and will have nothing to do with the K. Nye, spinster, and Granny McDowell told of the horrible conditions which they said obtained here, how the Mormon bishops forced the people to vote as they directed, extorted tithing from them and held them in bondage like unto that which the children of Israel groaned under in Egypt. The school scarecrow was exhibited in all its hideousness and polygamy that was a great card, and was worked for all it was worth. The if as believed what speakers spoke they they told the ladies, but they didn't no, not one of them, and very, very few of the audience did either. The meeting was a dead failure, the Tribunes hot air to the contrary notwithstanding. The K. K. is doomed to failure. well-meanin- J Why is Councilman Fernstrom going around among his friends and neighbors, telling them in that quiet, insinuating way so well known in Utah that it is the desire of the Mormon church authorities that the Democratic ticket be elected this year, particularly for the reason that if Judge Powers were in the lower house of Congress it would greatly strengthen Senator Smoots hold on hi3 seat in the Senate? We should like an answer to the question, why is Fernstrom so doing? & Arthur Brown of the Commercial National bank, who was named by the Tribune as one of the prime movers in the plan to start a ladies annex to the K.
