Saturday evening Union came back for their second encounter of the season, and handed Dugway a sound defeat, 71 to 53. Again the Cougars were slow starting in the first half, hitting 30 percent from the floor. However, during the second half they hit 51 percent from the floor, and 75 percent from the free Heaton throw line. The third quarter was again the big one for Union, when they hit 23 ' points to Dugway'sl2. and Chasel Trowbridge each hit 16 the game for Union, with points during 10 of Chasel's pants coming in the third quarter. Duncan and Heaton were high in rebounds, with 11 and 9 each. Coach Brad Monks states that the team is beginning to gell, and he feels they will be ready to go on the road this week, playing Milford Friday. The following week they meet Emery here. Coach Monks states that the Dugway game was a physical" encounter. The Cougars came out to play ball, however, and were able to adjust. Jay ML Lion was able to hold Dugway's Brown down to 15 points during the encounter, in excellent defensive play. By Lana Malinsld November 25th Duchesne hosted the Dugway Basketball team. Duchesne's J. V. lost to the Mustangs 29-4Our varsity boys also lost. The score was On December 9, Duchesne will host South Rich. The J. V. will begin at 5:30 with the varsity to follow. There will be a march performed at half time by the Duchesne Debutantes. Our wrestling team will start off their season with a match against Park City Wednesday at home. Then on Friday they will travel to Altamont for a tournament. V. lost to Union J. V. 66 to 45. In the varsity game the Longhorns played a great game with the half time score 29 to 28, Unions favor, but weren't able to hold them and the Cougars won 79 to 63. High scorers for Altamont were Mickey Fieldsted with 21 points and Keven Burton with 14 points. Other scores were David Barton 8, Glenn Lamb 7, Mark Birch 6, Doug Todd 4, Dennie Ralphs 2, and Kelly Sorenson 1. On Wednesday, Nov. 30, the Longhorn basketball team was to travel to Uintah and on Friday, Dec. 2, they will travel to Emery. Also on Friday, Dec. 2, Altamonts wrestling season opens with a tournament hosted by the Longhorns. The first round of competition will start at 3 p.m. USUEC offers new course in insect study The Utah State University Education Center will offer during winter quarter a hour course in genera entomology (the study of insects), which has not previously been offered by the education center. n The dasswork and will include a fundamental, generalized introduction to the insects and their relatives, including their economic and medical importance, structure, physiology, developmental cycles, ecology, behavior, evolution and basie classification. Dr. Steve Romney, instructor for the course, notes that when possible special emphasis will be placed upon the more practical aspects of entomology, including the modern techniques of chemical and biological control and special medical and economic problems of local interest. The class will be of sufficient scope and context as to appear! to persons of widely varying backgrounds, and as such sould prove to be enjoyable as well as of real value to persons who may not have had any previous course work in zoology or other biological sciences" stated Dr. Romney. Duchesne topples Dugway in basketball opener In what coaches classed as a typical first game, Duchesne Eagles handed the basketball crew from Dugway a defeat Friday evening, with a final score of 82 to 61. The two teams went into the opening quarter on a toe to toe basis, trading baskets throughout, but after the 19 all first quarter, Duchesne went through a cold period, hitting for only 11 points in teh second quarter, while Dugway hit 17, for a halftime score of 30 to 36. The third quarter was all Duchesnes, however, as they tanked 31 points, while holding Dugway to only 8 counters. The assigned quotas are 10 enrollees for Duchesne County and 15 enrollees for Uintah County. The conservation corps is authorized under Title VIII of the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act of 1973, as amended. The Ashley program is nonresidential, i.e. the young people will be hired from this area and will live at home. Enrollees will be employed for one period. Eligible for enrollment are all young people between the ages of 16 and 23 who are unemployed. The base salary rate will be $2.30 per hour, which will probably be increased to $2.65 per hour after the first of the new year. Anyone interested in employment in the YACC program should contact the Job Service offices in either Vernal or Roosevelt right away. The YACC work projects will he carried out on the Vernal, Roosevelt, and Duchesne Ranger Districts under the direction of the District Rangers.
