Show 19 Duchesne falls victim to annual tourney jinx UINTAH BABIN The state tournament jinx struck Duchesne's Eagles again last week as they were knocked out of the Tournament with two quick losses. Duchesne, which since 1970 has been to the state tournament five or six times, and has one of the best regular season records of any school in the state, nevertheless they have never been able to get going" at state. In the past six years they have a two win, ten kisses record in play-offThe 1975 edition certainly has to be rated one of the top teams in the school's history, and, with a 13-- record and a Region Ten championship under their belts, looked like contenders for the crown. The first day out in Provo the Eagles took on fourth place from Region Nine, North Rich. The game was close all the way and the Eagles were clearly better almost all the way. After leading at the end of the first three quarters the Eagles moved ahead by five points in the fourth quarter. Then the sky fell in and the cages from North Rich grabbed the lead with less than three minutes to go and held on for an upset win. The final score was North Rich 59, Duchesne 51. He will box in Pueblo Colorado on March 21 and 22, those winning in Pueblo will fly to Knoxville Sunday for the Nationals on Monday. Sam will fly to Pueblo as a member of a very strong team which will be coached by Stan Chenoweth and Leo Montoya. Luben Montoya one of Leo's sons is a member of this team and will be trying for a return trip to Knoxville where he was a finalist in the 1974 AAU National Tournament. Jim Montoya Luben's brother will box in the Las Vegas Regional tournament and hopes to meet his brother and father in Knoxville next week.
