Show Roosevelt elementary 1 5 STANDARD MARCH 20, 1 975 name science fair winners Roosevelt Elementary School held their annual Science Fair on March 17. Blue, red and white ribbons were given to all the students participating. The three grand champion winners were Michelle Morgan, Leslie Percival and John Blake. These three students will attend the district' fair at Altamont Elementary School, March 20. Carol Turnbow of Salt Lake visited with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Burnell Turnbow this past weekend. Marsha Turnbow and Jan Giles visited their parents this past weekend. Marsha is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. U-Turnbow and Jan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Giles. Linda Woods and a friend visited this past weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Woods. Linda is working in Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clark attended a birthday party of Franks brothers and sisu-rlast Saturday in Salt Lake. They hold this every year. Six out of the eight family members were present. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clark went to the Provo Temple for two sessions and stayed with a granddaughter, Juanita Pilivi in Salt Lake. They also visited with friends and family. Arvil and Deon Rhoades spent Friday in Salt Lake on business and visiting me miters of their family who are ill. Thelma and Ted Nye kept doctor appointments in Salt Lake Monday of this week and visited Mr. and Mrs. Ted D. Nye and family. Linda Mae and I,eslie Giles and family of eight of Lakeshore, Utah, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Linda and Klwood Carter. It was the Gaiters wedding anniversary and also the Giles ons first birthday on the same day. Mathew Giles and Newell Carter of Salt Lake visited on Saturday to help celebrate. They received many calls and letters from other members of the family. Iau and Maxine Penrod of Green Rier Wyoming visited last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Defa. Maxine had to go for a check-uto her doctor in Salt Iaikc. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wadley and Mr. and Mrs. lam Turnbow attended Ward Temple Day at the Provo Temple Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Venice Turnbow, Mr. and Mrs. Burnell Rhoades and Ted Nye attended sessions Wednesday evening at the Provo Temple. Connie and Brent Lee went to Salt ltke Monday of this week on business. They visited an aunt, Etta Redmond, Mr. and Mrs. Max Bond of American Fork and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lee and family of Orem. Mrs. Josephine Voda had heart surgery in the LDS hospital Tuesday of this week. At this time she is doing very well and hopes to be home by the end of the next week. Her son Dave Voda of Tulsa, Oklahoma came to be with his mother. Work Day was held Tuesday with a large crowd attending. The ladies learned how to make cheese and Freda Davies the Stake Leader taught how to make Easter Baskets and decorations and a new method of quilting. After the meeting t he ladies toured the new church building which will be ready for use in May. The building is going to be very beautiful and will be enjoyed. Mr. John Roberts and J. C. Humphrys went to Logan Friday of this week after a load of feed for John. ROOSEVELT FAIR ELEMENTARY WINNERS The Science Fair was held March 17, at Neola Elementary under the direction of Mr. Keith Mair, 6th grade teacher. Winners in four competition were; 1st place Jo Lyn Haslem, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Haslem, MontwelL 2nd Place, Suzanne Smart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Parley Smart, Neola. 2nd Place Jerilyn Horrocks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Horrocks. These are students in the 4th grade under the direction of Mrs. Martha L. Andrews. Third place winners are Penny Duncan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Duncan and Lisa Davis, daughter of Mrs. Lorna Davis. They are 6th grade students under the direction of Mr. Keith Mair. The District Science Fair will be held at Altamont Elementary March 20. The public is cordially invited to attend. EAST ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY FAIR FAIR WINNERS-Winn- ers in the Neola Elementary Fair Science are JoLyn Haslem, Suzanne Smart, Jerilyn Horrocks, Penny Duncan and Lisa Davis. Ted Hunting won second place at the East Roosevelt Elementary school Science fair with his space science. Mrt. Ml Ntmiti of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Pratt of Neola. Mrs. Pratt is the former Leslie Darnell from Altamont Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Stevenson received word from their son Andy and his wife Ann of a new 8 lb. baby boy, born Sunday night. Also Mr. and Mrs. Owen Goodrich are the grandparents of this new little guy- - Mrs. Connie Holgato 454-380- Home for the weekend from college were Marilyn Lamb and Joan Brother-son- . 6 Jack and Pat Stevenson brought their son Kerry down from Portland, Oregon to enter the mission home in Salt Lake. Kerry will then leave to go to Hawaii, where he will learn the language then fulfill a Korean mission. Kerry is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Stevenson. Jack also talked at BYU on his trip from Oregon at an Engineering Seminar. Bob Fausett had the misfortune of accidently shooting himself in the leg. He is now in the Duchesne County Hospital. Mrs. Pearl Orr is in the Duchesne County Hospital after suffering a heart attack. Mrs. Betty Mitchell and Lanis are in Hooper, where they are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Parker. The Primary will be presenting their program in sacrament meeting this Sunday. Also the Easter program will be held this Sunday because of Stake Conference being held Easter Sunday. Sandy Christensen was honored at a bridal shower Saturday at the home of Mrs. LaNar Lamb. There were many guests there to honor Sandy. Games were played and refreshments were served. Regrets that building has been delayed by Gunsite Construction Co. on the New Moon Lake Ward LDS Church House. Hope for early remedy prevails among members. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Lewis have just returned from ftVextendcd vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Val McDonald made a trip to Salt Lake to see Beverly's doctor. Notice, the new oil well site is being prepared at top of Altonah (Ames) hill by Chevron Oil Company. Gene Harmon is in Wyoming on business. An Open House was given by Mr. and Mrs. Verl Tucker to honor Mr. and Mrs. Randy Bywater after being sealed in the temple. Out for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bedwell and Lora Jackson. There were many guests and a light refreshment was served. Colleen Bisel and Sandy Hadson worked in the kitchen. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Maxfield had a surprise telephone call from their oldest son, Perry, who is in Caracas, Venezula. They haven't seen their son in three years and were real excited to hear from him and his family. Mr. and Mrs. Verl Tucker drove to Price on Sunday to see Yerls father who is in the hospital after suffering from a heart attack. High Councilman visiting Altamont 1st Ward were Bruce Goodrich, Brent Brotherson, Joe Kemp and Mr. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Pollard visited with Mr. and Mrs. George Fisher Jr. Tuesday and Wednesday. The Pollards are from Bountiful. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Jessen had the misfortune of their new pump house burning down. (Jey Gates) Roosevelt, Utah A farewell testimonial was held in sacrament meeting for Sue La Rose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman La Rose of Altonah. Lewis Daniels gave the opening prayer. Brother Dennis Smith from Lehi and Rod Jorgensen from Orem were special speakers at the farewell. Susie Hess, Corinne Crass, Penny Ashworth, and Janeen Sorenson, (Sue's roommates) favored Sue with a song. Mr. James Sorenson closed the meeting with prayer. There were many visitors and friends to the farewell. A turkey dinner was held at Lewis andRevella Daniels home for family members and friends. Sue will enter the mission home Saturday where she will then fulfill a Missouri Mission. Also a coincidence to Sue's mission the first field she enters in Missouri Elder Brent Fieldsted is the zone leader. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hanberg from Panquitch are the parents of a new baby boy. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hanberg. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hanson went to the Temple last week where they were sealed for time and eternity. in Bench with her Electric Motor. list science fair winners NEOLA SCIENCE first place the Science Fair held at East Roosevelt school, March 13, was Kathy East elementary East Elementary held its annual Science Fair March 13. Over 200 projects were entered. Nine projects were chosen by the judges to represent East Elementary at the District Science Fair at Altamont on March 20th. They were: Kathy Bench 1st, Electric Motor, Ted Hunting 2nd, Space Science, Paul Brandenburg, 3rd, Space Science, Jackie Harmston, 4th, Bacteriology, Ricky Wymer, 5th, Rocks and Minerals, Susan Petroleum Pomrenke, 6th, Products, Barbara Truman, 7th, Function of the Lung, Val Bench, 8th, Magna tism, Mitch Freestone, 9th, Compression. WINNER-Winn- ing Mrs. Marie Hall of Escalante visited with her sister, Mrs. Gladys Capson a few' days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Murphy have a new granddaughter, the little miss was born March 15 to Mr. and Mrs. Reed Argyle of Spanish Fork. This make 21 grandchildren for the Murphys. Friday evening at the Ward Cultural hall, the Relief Society women honored their Husbands with a dinner and program. A large crowd attended. Miss Paulette Peatross was released as Bee Hive Teacher, Mrs. Jean Bleazard was sustained in her place. Nancy Hanberg was sustained as assistant librarian. Mr. and Mrs. Grover Dye, Vernal, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Val Killian and Jennie Woodward Sunday. Clay Harrison, Roosevelt, grandson of Zora Gardner and former resident of Neola won 2nd place in a one on one basketball program held last week a I Utah State, Logan and he also won the trophy for the scholarship award. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Labrum received word Feb. 6 of a new grandson born to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Jenkins, Roosevelt. He weighed 8 lbs. 2 oz. and will be named Coby. The Jenkins other two children stayed with their grandparents for a few days. In sacrament meeting Sunday Dennis Draney was released as counselor and Fred Evan was sustained as counselor. The Relief Society will hold their Birthday Party March 19 at the church house. It is for husbands and wives. There will also be square dancing with Fred Brown, Vernal as the caller. March 12 the Neola Jr. teams plays play at the Jr. high at 6:00 and the Sr. teams plays there also at 7:00. On March 13 the Neola H2 Jr. team plays at the Stake house at 6:00 and the M. Men play March 11 at 8 at the West Jr. high. Next Sunday will be ward Conference. Temple day will be March 22 with buses leaving Roosevelt at 4:30 a.m. ... Cub Scouts who attended the Space Dash Pinewood Derby march 14 were Dean and Shane Townsend, Brian Daniels, David Duncan and Troy Hatch. It was a close race and Brian was nosed out by a Vi inch for the championship by Jeff Madsen, Roosevelt, who won 1st place. The club is proud of Brian who won 2nd place in the district. Jerilee Jensen was home from Iaigan over the weekend visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Jensen. Wesley Allred returned home Friday after receiving surgery in a Salt Lake hospital A wedding reception was held Friday night at the Neola Chapel for Sheryl Zager andStewart Olsen. Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Olsen and daughter, Ogden, were here visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Evan Olsen over the weekend. Mrs. Bessie Horrocks returned home last week after spending ton days in Salt Lake visiting her children. Temple day will be this Saturday March 22, with buses leaving Roosevelt at 4:30 a.m. March 21 the Cub Scouts will hold Carnival at 7:30 p.m. at the Neola Chapel. There will be games of skill ami a cake walk. Everyone is invited. The primary will hold their program Sunday March 23 in sacrament meeting. forty-eight- p attention. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lee received word son, Robert Lee had won a trip for five days to Spain. Mr. and Mrs. Lee left Friday for their stay in Spain. Ten people of Western Airlines left for the trip. Ten from United and ten from Frontier Airlines. There will be a church supper of the 22 of March with Wilson K. Anderson doing a magic show. He will be remembered as our seminary teacher some years back. The money for the supper will go on the finishing of the new chapel. Lets all get out and bring the family and support the ward on this project. that their BLM receives high bids for gas, oil leases For oil and gas leases, 15 parrels of land in Utah administered by the Department of the Interior's Bureau of I .and Management received high bids totaling $112,461. 75 during a bid opening Tuesday. The bureau had offered 25 parcels of land in Carbon, Duchesne, Grand and Uintah counties, according to Paul L. Howard, BLM state director for Utah. The offered parcels totaled 8,935.47 acres and varied in size from 38 to 640 acres. High bidders were as follows: Husky Oil Co. of Denver, $13,510.40 for 640 acres; Sunburst Exploration Corp., Denver, $11,150.40 for 1,000 acres; Cairo of Salt Lake City, $597.82 for 198.83 Edwards. Denver. acres; Stanley $32,168.18 for 1,880.08 acres; Universal Resources, Denver, $29,312.40 for 760 acres; Atlantic Richfield Co., Denver, $17,ftl.35 for 1,098.96 acres; Natural Gas Corp. of California, San Francisco, $7,281.60 for 480 acres; and Texaro Inc., Denver, $1 ,029.60 for 80 acres.
