Show Monthly guard drill held at Vernal The monthly assembly of the 1457th Engineering Battalion of Vernal was held last weekend. Scheduled training consisted of individual weapons qualification, road and parking lot construction, and preparation for AGI inspection. Weapon qualifications are conducted annually to help maintain proficiency and expertise with the various small weapons used in combat. The firing range is located about eight miles west of Vernal on the Lapoinl highway. Each soldier was required to shoot and demonstrate his rifle from ability to handle the various positions including standing, sitting, prone and kneeling. Aprox-imatel- y 4200 rounds of ammunition was fired by the group. After the qualifications, a new transfer into the ink from Florida, Lt. Pauli, now residing ia laosevelt, gave a demonstration of Green River Rifle Works' mussle loader rifles, which he builds. Lt. Pauli also won the turkey shoot at the range. On Sunday the Guard made preparations for a new asphalt parking lot just north of the Guard Armory. The parking lot will be joint effort of the county, who will supply the asphalt, the Guard who will haul the asphalt, and the city who will spread and roll the asphalt. Completion is expected early this week. Religious services on Sunday featured Reverand Stinson of the Assembly of God Church. He spoke on examining the foundation in our lives as Christians. Visitors from Headquarters Company in American Fork helped to inspect records and prepare for the inspections to STANDAR-D- NOVEMBER 14, 1974 the next two months. Visitors included Major Dean Lewis, hallalion executive officer; CW4 Hone, officer, and SGM Don property-booRichard Burnell, Bateman and E-maintenance inspectors. Cpt. Marshall S. Garrett. Cpt Skillian and CW4 Walker I conducted a inspection. SGT Robert Manley and PFC Alan Manley came from headquarters as medics during the firing at the rifle range. SGT Robert Faux, Battalion recruiter, also attended the drill. According to Council Scout Executive, Floyd Iioveridge, Rulon Dean Skinner of Provo has been selected to serve as the course director. Mr. Skinner is known to many in the council, having served as a district executive and assistant scout executive here for more than 15 years. Mr. Skinner is presently a member of the National Staff, teaching youth leadership at the Brigham Young University. Rulon Skinner is well prepared for this assignment, having served this past summer on both the Great Salt Lake Council and the Utah National Parks Council Wood Badge Staffs. He also attended a course directors seminar this past spring. Wood Badge is an intensive training experience offered to all adult scouters including district and church leaders, Loveridge slated. The objective of the course is to develop more effective leadership for the program of scouting. As a result of this experience, the learner will have a knowledge of the qualities and attributes of good leaders, will develop skill in the practice of leadership techniques and competencies by conscious design and will derive attitudes necessary for working effectively with others, both boys and adults.
