Show 24 STANDARD OCTOBER 17, 1974 Emergency med training made available Mr Nelson Carter resigns as councilman Nelson A. Carter, Roosevelt city councilman, last week submitted his resignation from the council, citing his added responsibilities as manager of the First Security Bank as reason for his action. After consideration, the city council accepted the resignation. In his letter of resignation, Mr. Carter stated that it was with reluctance that he was doing so, but felt that it was necessary in the best interest of the people of the city, and for his employers. Since his election to the council, Mr. Carter has been elevated to manager of the local branch of First Security, and in this capacity would be directly involved in financial transactions with the city, possibly giving rise to conflict of interest questions. Carter also added his to the council, and to the appreciation people of the city for his opportunity to serve, and pledges to continue his support of city projects. His resignation will become effective upon the appointment of a replacement. lerne Melee elects officers Saturday, Arlo McKee who has been stationed in Thailand arrived home Monday. Arlo and his wife, Ruth Ann and baby daughter left Friday for Tacoma, Washinlon where he has been reassigned. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Mcrklcy left Wednesday for a two week trip to the northwest. They plan on visiting the Iairen McKee's in Idaho and the Gene in Moses family Merkley Ijake, Washington. returning home they will visit Aneita Merkley Hancock in Sunnyvale, Calif. Teresa and Ronald Goodrich made a trip to Salt Like Thursday to see their faiher, Dennis Goodrich who is a patient at the Veterans hospital. Morris Reed is a patient at the Holy Cross hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald McKee and children left Thursday morning for a trip to Washington. They plan on visiting the Ijorcn McKees in Cambridge, Idaho and with friends in Seattle, Washington. Paul Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wilson has joined the paratroops and is now stationed in Ft. Ord, Caiif. Paul went to Anchorage, Alaska and joined the service while there. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Goodrich have received word that their grandson, Elder Andrew Goodrich will arrive in Salt Like City Monday, October 21. Elder Fred Goodhue, business manager of the Roosevelt Medical Clinic is for the Emergency Medical Technician training program to begin here November 9. Classes, held in the Uintah flasin Vocational Center will be comprised of 81 hours of technical emergency medical care including experience, intensive obstetrical rare and emergency room observation. Instructors for classes will be physicians of the Roosevelt medical clinic; John Simmons, Medix at the clinic, and Specially instructors from the State Department of health. Equipment for the classes will be provided by the State Department, of health. Individual law inforcement officers, members of search and rescue groups, volunteer ambulance help, officials or designated help of the oil industry, and other interested individuals both men and women, are eligible for the training. Entry applications are available from Fred Goodhue or Dr. Conde, in Roosevelt; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Walker in Duchesne; or Dr. Spendlove in Vernal. Equestrian club meets, Members of the Uintah Basin Riders met last week to elect officers, for the coming year. Jan Edgerton was elected president; Geraldine Frost, vice president; LaJean Rasmussen, Secretary; Joyce Eldredge, Treasurer, Paula Bell, Reporter, Jo Workman, Drill Mistress; Linda Crazier Gymkhana director, with Ellen Argyle, Vicki Jenkins, and Glenda Gurr as assistants; Punky Wallick, Social director and Mary Ann Parrish, Parade mistress. Duchesne. The fire was spotted, reported, and the Ft. Duchene fire department dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. 12 men under the direction of Walt Kixkiller and ItIA Forrest ry Service had the blaze under control at about 5:30 p.m. (lean up was not completed until Monday afternoon. Some hackfiring was necessary when the wind shifted at one point. Dry grass and kids playing with matches was the possible reason given, for the fire. The ward extends our sympathy to the loss of her mother, Margaret Blaine, who died Thursday. Funeral services will be held Monday in I luchesne. Burial will be in the Roosevelt cemel ery. While there they spent one day in Canada and from there to Illinois and visited two granddaughters. Lila came home Friday night. Sadie Chandler was in Santa Fc New Mexico visiting with her brother Cloyd Kump. She had a real nice time. Mr. Bill Cox is doing much better now after spending a day in the hospital last week. Vickie Kynaston is in the hospital. She went in Wednesday night for surgery. The ward bazaar is Wednesday. There will be kits of fun things for the children as well as things for Christmas.
