DUCHESNE COUNTY OFFICERS-Sho- L-- R, March March of Dimes drive is underway, telerama scheduled A luncheon to kick off the March of Dimes campaign in Duchesne County was held January 26 at the Frontier Grill. Miss Leigh Street, daughter of Mr. . George Street, was introduced to the community captains as Duchesne Countys poster child. During the dinner the announcement was made that the wheel chair for Leigh has been obtained. Others in attendance included Marion Behunin, District Director; Karon Stirling and Peggy Virden, Campaign Chairman and Treasurer, Barbara Shuler and Gerry Terry, Mother's March Chairmen for Roosevelt and Duchesne; and the community captains from Altamont, Al and-Mrs- to nah, Arcadia, Montwel Mountain Home, Talma ge and Districts two, four and five from Roosevelt Also present were Mr. and Mrs. John Gale and family who will represent Duchesne County in the State Telerama on February 2 and 3. The Telerama will also be featuring the talents of Gary Collins, star of the Sixth Sense; Mary Ann Mobley, former Miss America; Bob McGarth, star of Sesame Street; Winnie-th- e Pooh; and local talent from many of Utahs counties. Remember-th- e Telerama begins Sa2 at 10:30 p.m. and will February turday run through Sunday, February 3 at 6 p.m. Real estate dealer wins honors Clem 0. B. Oberhansly, exclusive representative at Roosevelt for United Farm Agency, Inc., a nationwide real estate sales organization, was honored in December for outstanding sales achievements. I. Mr., Qberhanslyqnalified for thq Diamond Award, ihe' highest sales award given by the company. He earned this by reaching a new goal in sales volume in less than a one-yeperiod. This award win then entitles Mr. Oberhansly and his wife to an expense-pai-d holiday in Hawaii where the companys International Awards Conference will be held. ' Mr. Oberhansly was appointed in 1972 ip represent United in Roosevelt ar - Die Fledermaus planned at TABIONA .Mrs. Connie Lee Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Lewis spent the weekend in Logan visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Winburg and family. They attended church services and also heard a beautiful mens chorus. They also stopped in Ogden to visit relatives and friends. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Kent Ellerston and family in Heber on Monday as they returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Turnbow and family and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Turnbow and family, Salt Lake, visited Mr. and Mrs. Leo Turnbow and family this weekend. The occasion being their fathers birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Alcorn of Chinook, Mont., visited this past week with Mr. and Mrs. LaMont Moon and family. Mrs. Alcorn is Gays mother. They were on their way to California for a visit. Mrs. Alcorn attended Relief Society with Gary on Tuesday which was also Gays birthday. Gay has been very ill and we were glad to have her back feeling a little better. Nick Defa returned home from an eleven day stay in the LDS hospital Thursday of this week. He had surgery while there and is feeling some better at the present time. Mr. and Mrs. Leo B. Defa brought him home. Leo also kept a doctor appointment that day while in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Van Tassell kept a doctor appointment for Margie in Provo on Wednesday of this week. Margie spent some time in the hospital right after the New Year but is improving. Claude Wagstaff has been confined to the Duchesne County Hospital for three days after taking sick Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Gail Wagstaff went down Friday to bring him home. Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Van Tassell spent the weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Earl Van Tassell They also attended the testimonial for Joe Burt e Reed Turnbow also spent the weekend at home visiting Mr. and Mrs. Burnell Turnbow. He also sang a solo on the program Sunday. A testimonial was held for Joe Burt Sunday at Sacrament meeting. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Burt Many relatives and friends from Salt Lake attended. Mr. and Mrs. Norton attended the testimonial. Mr. Norton taught seminary for many years in Tabiona and Joe was one of his students. He was guest speaker Sunday at his farewell Joe leaves for the Eastern States mission in the next few weeks. At Sacrament meeting Sunday Gene Burt, Owen Van Tassell and Sandy Carter were released from the Elders Quorum. Gene Burt was president. Also released was Kenneth Hansen as secretary. Owen Van Tassell was passed on as Elders president with LaVere Fabrizio and Raymond Nielson as counselors. . . . 843-257- 7 Burnell Rhoades as secretary. LaVere Fabrizio was released as quorum advisor to the teachers and Gene Burt was passed on as the new advisor. Word was received Thursday that Marvel Pace is a little better but does not know when she will be able to leave the hospital Anyone wishing to write her, she is in the Valley West hospital in Salt Lake. The Daughters of the Pioneers spent several days this week at their cabin quilting. They are getting ready for the party in February when they entertain their husbands at a lovely dinner party. They sell quilts and baked goods to help the organization. Everyone keep February in mind for the annual party. A large crowd from our area attended quarterly conference Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The theme was The place of Father in the Home. The talks and the music was very well presented and if followed would help us all live better lives. UBSCD will compete for prizes in awards program Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District will compete for top prizes in the 27th annual Goodyear Conservation Awards program according to Charles Crozier, Neola, SCD chairman. The district will put its 1973 record of conservation achievements against other districts in the contest An independent juging committee will select the first and second place districts in the state. Each first-plac- e district wins expense-paid- , vacation study trips for its outstanding cooperator and a member of the governing board. Representatives of 53 award winning conservation district nationwide will be guests of Goodyear on a tour of outstanding resource development projects. The awards program also includes recognition of the outstanding cooperator who will be selected by the district from the landowners and land users who are enrolled in the Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District's program. Members of the district governing board are Charles E. Crozier, Neola; Ken Carter, ML Home; Keith Mortensen, Roosevelt; Amos Merkley, Vernal; and Aral Allred, Dry Fork. 3 1 Jonuory 31 , STANDARD UofUinFeb. The University of Utah and the Utah Symphony Orchestra will present Johann Strauss' comic operetta, Die Fledermaus," at Kingsbury Hall February 6, 7, 8, 9. Tickets for this production are available at the Pioneer Memorial Theatre box office. Die Fledernaus" is a fun, farcial look at the mad social whirl of Vienna. At the insistence of his friend, Falke, Gabriel Von Eisenstein attends Prince Oriofsky's gala masquerade ball where he unwittingly woos his wife, Rosalinda, who is disguised as a Hungarian countess. The ensuing complications coupled with irresistible Strauss melodies such as The Laughing Song" and "Czardas provide a delightful evenings's entertainment. Michael Pollock, formerly with the New York City Opera Company will be the Utah Opera Company's Guest Stage Director. Daniel Sullivan and Steve Covington, both of the San Francisco Opera, will be featured as Gabriel Von Eisenstein and Alfred, respectively. Jewel Cutler and JoAnn Ottley will alternate in the role of Rosalinda, Eisenstein's wife. The part of Falke, Eisenstein's revengeful friend, will be played by Marvin Sorensen and the role of Adele, the ambitious chambermaid, will be played by Mary Billeter. Other cast members include: Noel Twitchell as Blind, a lawyer; Bill Call as Frank, the prison warden; Jill Lesser as Sally, Adele's sister, Stan Russon as Frosch, the jailer, and Ben Lokey as Orlofsky, the young and elegant prince. Performances will begin at 8 p.m. The fall semester honor roll at Ricks College includes 576 students. Students getting 3.5 grade point average or above for the semester, taking at least 14 hours of dasswork, are named to the honor roll. Ricks College is the largest privately-owne- d r college in the United States and is owned by the Church of Saints. EnJesus Christ of Latter-darollment this fall was approximately two-yea- y 5,000. Honor students include, Shauna Rasmussen of Roosevelt. Gary Anderton receives second U.S.A.F. medal Technical Sergeant Gary L. Anderton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reed Anderton, Roosevelt, has received his second award of the U. S. Air Force Commendation Medal at Wiesbaden AB, Germany. Sergeant Anderton, a supply supervisor, was cited for meritorious service while assigned at Williams AFB, Ariz. He now serves at Wiesbaden with a unit of the U. S. Air Forces in Europe. The sergeant is a 1959 graduate of Union high school His wife, Rita, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Welch, Savannah, Ga.
