Brooks, 78, Duchesne, died Jan. 28, in a Heber City hospital of terminal illness. She was born October 8, 1895, in Heber City to John W and Effruzenia W interrose. She married Francis J. Brooks, July 25, 1959 in Elko, Nev. She held office in Duchesne City job for many years. A member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Duchesne, one son, Allen Karl Wilkinson, San Jose, Calif.; step children, Dick Johnstun, Tracy, Calif.; Lillian Rhees, Ogden; Madge Watson, Ladysmith, Wis. Two grandchildren, two great grandchildren. One brother, Rueben E. Winteh-rose- , Cedar City. Funeral service, will be Thursday, (today) at 1 p.m. in the Duchesne LDS ward. Friends may call at the chapel in Duchesne at 11 a.m., until time of services. Burial will be in the Heber City cemetery. Phone news items Church news nUCHESNE Jacob Wirnell Potter, 44, died January 27, at home in Moab of lung cancer. He waa born Dec. 28, 1929 in Boneta. County to Charles W. and Kate Kofford Potter. He waa a miner in Moab, Green River area, Veteran WWII. Survivors include brother and sister, Alfred E. Potter, Mrs. Joseph Paulene Hadden, both of Salt Lake. Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, at 12 p.m. in the LDS Chapel in Duchesne. There will be a viewing 11 to 12, previous to services in the Stake house. Burial w31 be in the Utahn cemetery. 722-213- 1 nna W. Streitz St. Helens Catholic 974 1 S. Malnar, Joseph 65, Neola, died January 26, in a Roosevelt hospital of a heart attack. He was born March 20, 1908 in Midvale to Stephen and Mary Pintar Malnar. He married Rose Wilkerson, December 2, 1929 in Neola. Joe was a long time resident of the Basin. He moved to Neola with his parents in 1915 when he was only 8 years old. He was the father of four children, one proceeds him in death. He was a rancher and cattleman in Neola, until his retirement. He drove a school bus from Neola to Roosevelt for 10 years. He drove frieght between Salt Lake, Price, and Neola and was also an insurance agent for 22 years, many times top agent for his company. He was a member of the Utah Farmers Union, and was on the board of directors for 6 years. He was a licensed security broker and real estate agent. He sold cars and farm machinery in Roosevelt many years and served on the ASCS as committeeman. Some of the many civic activities he was involved in the community was as first chairman for e Word was received of the passing of Warnell Potter, a former Utahn resident, who resided many years with the May hew family. He passed away in Moab, Monday, Jan. 28. e Mr. and Mrs. Kay Stratton and children recently attended the funeral of Pat's grandmother, Mrs. Geneva Tucker Hansen, 92, in Fairview. Connie Earl, daughter of Niles and Norma Earl is wearing a neck collar after falling last week in a PE class. With no broken bones, she must wear the brace for several weeks. Kathy and Galen Hooper are proud parents of a daughter born January 16 at the Duchesne County hospital. Weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces, she will be named Sally Ann and is their second daughter. Kathy returned home from the hospital on January 21. Mrs. Hildur Brooks is reported in a weakened condition in the hospital in Heber. Friends will be interested in knowing that Mrs. Katie Diermier was moved from her hospital room at University Hospital in Salt Lake to Ventura, Calif. Guests at the home of Velma and Porfirio Perez were her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Miller, Salt Lake, who were in Duchesne to present a program Sunday afternoon for the young mar-riedgroup of Duchesne first ward. They were also present for the blessing of the newest Perez, David Donovan, a Visiting the Russell Peterson's were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Peter son and Kirt and Randall of Richfield and Ken and Peggy Peterson with their daughter Krista of American Fork, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baxter, who are Mrs. Peterson's parents and Pennie and Barry Baxter were also there over the weekend. They were all present for the blessing of Wade Russell Peterson, born November 14. a Several newcomers have moved to Duchesne, Randy Frankling, who spent the holidays in Oklahoma, is back permanently. Mr and Mrs. Bobby Walker have also moved to Duchesne recently, and Glen and Linda Clark and who had moved back to Hennesthen-homsey, Okla., are returning to make here again. All of these men are working for Shebester of Hennessey, a oil service company. permanently-baseMrs. Glenda Aletha Fietkau Kenison, 73, Gig Harbor, Washington died January 19 in a Tacoma, Wash., hospital Born April 18, 1904 in Fairview, she is survived by several brothers and sisters in this area: Charles, Roosevelt; Mrs. Eugene (Bernice) Abplanalp, Duchesne; Mrs. Jack (Ruby) Fitzwater now of Midvale, formerly of Duchesne; Mrs. Napier (Alice) Swasey, Altamont; and Mrs. Cecil (Ruth) Kofford, Duchesne. Funeral services were January 25 at Haven of Rest Mortuary, Gig Harbor, Washington with burial at Haven of Rest cemetery. Wilma Sleight, who had surgery last week at LDS hosptial in Salt Lake, is reported doing well and will be home early this week. Sponsored by Duchesne 1st ward, Mr. Lee Miller of Salt Lake presented a program Sunday afternoon to both wards about food storage. A wheat pudding was served to those present, as well as samples of roasted soybeans, wheat and other items. The March of Dimes fund drive begins January 29, according to Duchesne's chairman, Mrs. Gerry Terry. It will continue until February 4; funds raised will be used toward research on birth defects. Since the poster girl for 1974 is from Altamont, some of the funds are earmarked for a wheelchair for her. The annual March of Dimes telathon begins on Saturday; Duchesne residents wishing to make phone pledges may call Mrs. on Sunday between 9 Terry at a.m. and 5 p.m. These pledges will be called into radio station KVE1 in Vernal for announcement. Volunteers will also be at doors soon, asking for contributions. Also beginning February 1, Duchesne 1st ward will begin its Penny Parade for the Primary Childrens Medical Center. This drive is completely separate from the March of Dimes Even of is care taken the penny though parade i by volunteers from the LDS church, proceeds are used for any child, regardless of race or creed, who needs special medicine or food and is unable to pay for it. The adults from St. Helen's Church began attending various discussion meetings last week. These meetings have been formed to help compile material far a Catechetical Directory to aide in religious instruction for all ages and to update such instruction to fit our changing times. Four different books will be discussed over the next few weeks with the hope that some fine suggestions will be brought out. The meetings on January 23, 24 and 25 discussed the book General Catechetical Directory". Those attenting were: Messre, and Mmes. Bob Murphy, Everett Daniels, Charles Cortez. Orlando Rachele, Bob Pope, Bob Pachl, B. A. Rodriquez, Mrs. Irene Dill, Mrs. Mary Weliever, Mrs. Linda Holler, Sister Mary Michael, Sister Regina, and Father Michael J. Winterer. The meetings of January 30 and 31 and February 1 will direct their discussion toward the book Basic Teachings for Catholic Religious Education". Dana W. Streitz, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Streitz, Ft. Duchesne, was promoted to Army specialist Four in Germany, where he is serving with the 586th Maintenance Company. Spec. Streitz is a clerk in the Company in Kornwestheim.
