Kershner PART ONE , It is a sad and terrible story when a great and powerful nation loses its character, its morals, its wealth, and its strength. This has all happened to our country in less than fifty years. No one whose memory goes back well into the past century can fail to be shocked and grieved at the deterioration that has taken place in our country during the past 45 years. From incomparably the strongest nation in the world more powerful even than any combination of nations we have become a second-rat- e power, wondering if we can survive. In the 30s, we were warned by a number of brave souls that termites were boring through the beams of our body politic. We rejected these Jonahs who were crying out yet forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown, (Jonah 3:4) and went on with the frantic dance of pleasure-lovin- g irresponsible people. Those who rose to warn us were hounded from public life and often destroyed. We sent Harry Dexter White, who had long controlled the policies pursued by the: Treasury Department of the United States, to set up the International Monetary Fund, designed to strip the United States of its financial virility. We entered into the Marshall Plan in further dissipation of our wealth. We loaned to the Communist government of Russia over $10 billion, strengthening a deadly enemy, while further weakening ourselves. We fought World War II, apparently to upgrade Russia and to downgrade ourselves. General Marshall boasted that with one stroke of the pen, he disarmed forty of Chiang Kaisheks divisions. This led to the communization of China. We prevented MacArthur from administering a set- -, back to Communist China, which immediately brought on the war in Vietnam. In so doing, we lost the support of all of southeast Asia. We deliberately avoided winning the war in Vietnam, and made ourselves the of the world. We refused to send help laughing-stoc- k to the Hungarians in 1956. This probably would have action all over the triggered other enslaved countries, that would have swept communism into the trash can. We made no resistance to the Berlin Wall and backed down on furnishing air cover at the Bay of Pigs. We tore up the Monroe Doctrine and allowed the develop-- , ment of a strong base for Communism in Cuba. We , The OF two Senators and at least one, and possibly as many as three, Representatives. Your state legislators votes are now crucial because the amendment is before the states for states ratification. Thirty-eigmust approve it for it to become a ht . law. But instead, it was virtually bludgeoned onto the calendar. Senator William Scotts office can provide you with excerpts from the Congressional Record which expertly set out the case against the amendments Don Ruby of Scotts office will be able to help you. A campaign to rush the amendment through state legislatures without proper consideration is being mounted. The political bossism evident in the Senate passage also shows in the ratification effort. It is clear that any legislator who Votes against the amendment will be smeared as a racist. This lie was one of the most effective used by the liberals in their scheme to push it through the Senate, and will no doubt be used to bludgeon state legislators. Scott and Helms shredded the racist charge with brilliant logic. On the other hand, politicians are promoting the amendment for every vote its worth. . Immediately after Senate approval, the Districts elected House delegate, Walter Fauntroy, rushed out to California to demand well-orchestrat- ed vote-grabbi- mm The Independent Salt Lake City, Utah The Utah Independent it published by the Utah Independent each Tuesday at 57 East Oakland Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah 84115.
