Dental decay as one form of dental disease is quite devastating to Americans and to people who live within the State of Utah. As of today there is not even one comprehensive scientific test that proves fluoridation of the water supply is a safe way to prevent decay. But there is scientific proof that the adverse reactions are sufficient to keep this deadly rat poison out of the drinking water of the people of this state. As I have traveled over the world, many have expressed admiration for the pioneer spirit which you have established and the manner in which you have moved forward in meeting your problems, solving them, and raising the economic Resolution Re Fluoridation WHEREAS, dental decay is the most prevalent disease in the State of Utah, and WHEREAS, many families do not seek dental care to treat caries, and WHEREAS, many parents to not teach brushing and flossing and dietary habits to prevent dental caries, and in many cases are themselves not knowledgeable about preventive practices, and WHEREAS, there are not sufficient dentists to provide adequate dental treatment should everyone in need seek dental treatment, and WHEREAS, there arc other benefits of fluoridation such as decreased dental defects, such as and decreased malocclusions, other diseases such as otosclerosis and osteoporosis, and WHEREAS, the safety of fluoridation has been documented over and over, and WHEREAS, the cost of dental care is increasing at a rate faster than cost of fluoridation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Utah Public Health Association that legislators and elected officials be memorialized and that funds be gathered for the purpose of education by public health and that local governing bodies be asked to pass an ordinance for fluoridation.
