Show The Paper That Dares To Take A Stand August 28, 1975 The Utah Independent Page 3 WHO NEEDS GOD? Ardette R. McLauchlan TOM ANDERSON i don't have that kind of faith." This was the confession of a young pastor when I challenged him to trust God instead of government to supply his needs. His admission just about sums up the Ask And It Shall Be Given listen to our To politicians one would think that government has the answer to problems. from a to We all of our have come nation elf oit nation. Just ask and it shall be given, which reminds me of the fiery fundamentalist preacher who was holding forth on the damnation to be visited on sinners on Judgement Day. 'There will be great weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth!" "But preacher," interjected a sweet little old lady, "what if we don't have any teeth?" "Teeth will be provided!" he roared. Big Brother is providing. Though many people fail to comprehend it Big Brother has provided our inflation, which is bound to get much worse. Without admitting who and what caused it, some politicians now concede that inflation is Public Enemy Number One. Since inflation is too much money chasing too few goods, and since government alone has the authorization to print money, doesn't that mean that government is Public Enemy Number one? Last year the pols and bureauleeches told us the inflation rate was 5 or 6 and now it has been revealed that the actual inflation rate is 14.4. And the "real" Gross National Product plunged 9.1 in the same period. The government gives us two sets of figures. The "real" means adjusted for inflation. The government keeps 2 sets of books just like any ordinary embezzler. As the wise old farmer said: "It's not what you git, it's what you git gits." Hitler gave his people bread mixed with sawdust which tasted delicious. That way they could die with full bellies. In the German inflation of the early 20's, the inflation rate reached 322 per month. The Mark was devalued 750 times in 1 year and workers were paid twice each day so their wives could rush to the grocery with a basket full of money, to beat the next price increase. Haircuts went from 3 Marks to 3 trillion Marks in 2 years, and the stock of its market lost 83 actual value in the same in 1956, prices went up to 233 times their normal level in just 1 Bolivia year. In Hungary in 1945 - about incomprehensible inflation. "Those who will not learn from history are destined to repeat it." Dr. Hans Sennholz, Professor of Economics and Chairman of the Economics Department at Grove City College, pointed out that in Ford's first 4V4 months in office, the money supply rose 6.1 or at a 15.6 annual rate. Dr. Sennholz says that we will have 3 stajes of inflation: SINGLE 1. DIGIT INFLATION from 1961 to 1973. 2. DOUBLE DIGIT from 1974 INFLATION 1979 and he through that the predicts s will lose 70 Middle-Clas- to 80 of their life's savings during this second stage. 3. TRIPLE DIGIT (yes, over 100 per year) INFLATION beginning approximately 1980, followed by the complete destruction of our currency. Dr. Harry Schultz, a world renowned economist, predicts that all nations will revalue gold before the end of 1975 and the Dollar will lose 50 of its present value in the next 1 8 months. ''International Money line" predicts our 1974 Dollar will fall to 25 of its present value by 1977 (a loss of 75 in 2 years). A $10,000.00 bond, or a certificate of deposit bought today would be worth only $2,500.00 in purchasing power by 1977. So what can we do? 1. We must drastically reduce the size and scope of federal state, government and local. 2. We must get on a basis, including a systematic retirement of our incredible public debt. 3. We must stop the - pay-as-we-- go Reserve Federal from running the money presses and relentlessly the value of watering-dow- n the money already issued. 4. We must again tie our money to gold, silver, or other precious metals. 5. We must dismantle our Welfare State, get back to work, and once-agai- n the world. We will do those things or we will be destroyed as a nation of free people. -- American Way Features out-produ- period. In 1946, the rate of inflation reached 1 9,600 per month and a loaf of bread went from 13 Pengo to 1 trillion Pengos in 2 years. There is nothing new or ce . of attitude professing Christians today. They let the government steal for them, just as the sinners do. Evidently they believe in a God who is "big enough to fill the universe", but not big enough to take care of their can physiual needs. Only Gov-go- d has do that. After all, Gov-go- d cruse of money, that never-failin- g the taxpayer. Fidel Castro would be immensely pleased with today's Christians. It is said that Fidel directed school children to bow their heads and pray to God for candy. When no candy appeared, he had the children pray to him. And presto! there was the candy (placed by teachers while the children's heads were bowed). Just so, modern Christians want all good things handed to them, with no troubles. They sense that, by completely trusting the true God, they might not always have things as soft as they wish. So they turn to Gov-go- d who supplies their wants and never asks anything of them except their votes (and their freedom which they value so They sit in their lightly). cushioned, carpeted, air-conditio- churches and sing their vapid songs, snooze through banalities from the pulpit, and applaud the religious burlesque shows. They can do God these favors without cost to themselves. If the eleventh chapter of Hebrews is used today, all the things are read, right through the first clause of verse 35. Then begins the part that tells about the people who, rather than accept deliverance, were tortured, mocked, scourged, imprisoned,, stoned, sawn asunder; they were destitute, afflicted, tormented; they nice-soundi- wandered in deserts ng and mountains, and lived in caves. would never let Why. Gov-go- d such things happen to us! (Shudder!) Don't even think about will see that we have a it! Gov-go- d decent standard of living! Trust him! I once had a faithful pastor, perhaps the last of his kind, who defined faith in God as "The response to the command of God and His promise of help." God has commanded, Thous shalt not steal." Christians today, because they do not believe God's promises, have stooped to breaking that commandment, and so are robbing their neighbors whom they are commanded to love. Abraham, whose faith Christians are to emulate, left an example for us. "And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, 'Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.' And Abram said to the king of Sodom, 'I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, that I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take anything that is thine, THOU LEST HAVE SHOULDEST SAY, MADE ABRAM RICH.' " 1 Emphasis (Genesis 14:21-2- 3. Our attitude mine.) today is that we don't care who makes us rich so long as someone does. We don't necessarily need God. Gov-go- d Continued on page 9 ON COURSE with Capt. Joe H. Ferguson THE ARROGANCE OF POLITICIANS AND BUREAUCRATS Captain Joe H. Ferguson ARROGANCE OF POLITICIANS An increasing number of American taxpayers are bite taken from becoming aware of the their paychecks by the most insidious rip-o- ff in history Social Security. This program has proven to be one of the greatest frauds in history, as the returns to the citizen are only a fraction of that contributed by him and his employer and only a fraction of what he could.earn in a private investment program. But while the Social Security program becomes a more grievous burden yearly to the taxpayers, the politicians who cause the problem have isolated themselves from it. The Review of the News, in its July 16 issue, reported that Congressmen and Senators, who all too frequently attempt to buy votes with Social Security increases, do not themselves participate in the program. Aware of the immense thievery involved in this program, they have set up their own actuarily sound retirement program and do not make FICA payments. Small ever-increasi- ng wonder, then, that unscrupulous politicians could care less about the exorbitant FICA taxes being paid by the workers of America and the pitifully small returns they receive from them. ARROGANCE OF BUREAUCRATS EPA Czar Russell Train repeatedly shows his contempt for the American businessmen, workers and taxpayers. His latest display of arrogance is reported in the form of an illegal expenditure of the taxpayers money to provide himself with a limousine and chauffeur. Government regulations specify which government officials shall have government-pai- d transportation and his position is not included. When questioned regarding this expense, Train responded that he thought he deserved a limousine even though it was not authorized. This action comes in light of Train's requests to the citizens of America that they join car pools to conserve energy. This hypocritical arrogance of politicians and bureaucrats in Washington at the expense of the American appears to be rampant and increasing. This proves without question that it is time for a housecleaning in Washington. THE SPIRIT THAT WINS some skaters was a boy so small and so evidently a beginner that his frequent mishaps awakened the pity of a tenderhearted, if not wise, spectator. "Why, Sonny, you are getting all bumped up," she said. "1 wouldn't stay on the ice and keep falling down; I'd just come off and watch the others skate." The tears of the last downfall were still rolling over the rosy cheeks, but the child looked from his adviser to the shining steel on his feet and answered: "I didn't get some new skates to give up with; 1 got them to learn with." -- Midway Manna Youth 5 Living Ideals Among The mm Independent Salt Lake City, Utah The Utah Independent It published by the Utah Independent each Tuesday at 57 East Oakland Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah 84115.
