I ay ton. icceived a national rtle I award toi Distinguished graduates lecently at the National 1 Title I Conlereiice in Oakland. Calif Larsen received Title I assistance with reading in first through lourth giadcs She later excelled in high school where sue was an honot stu- dent. graduating limn Cle.ulield High in 19NX. She then attended Salt Lake Community College on a basketball scholarship, then attended Weber Stale 1'niversitv where she earned bachelor's degiee in F.nglish and physical education in 1993 She now coaches high school volleyball and basketball She received her teaching certificate in 1990 and is enrolled in a master's degree program at Grand Canyon University. "Title I definitely helped me with my reading skills I immediately started feeling belter about myself. My confidence was built, which allowed me to go on and do other things. Believe me, even as young as I was. I remember not being able to read very well. That is traumatic at any age." Title I is a federally funded program. providing extra help to students needing it most in a number of areas. Students do not have to be low income to receive help through the program. SUP to host monthly dinner The South Davis Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers will hold its monthly dinner social on January 23 at the Red flame Restaurant. 1342 S. 500 W Bountiful at 7 p m.
