Like evetv loothtill season a eotielt losses plaveis to graduation and the Darts aie no exception With the graduation of three-yea- r starters Ben Warden (now at Southern Utah Lniv ersily) and Kelly Chatlerton (now at Weber Slate University the Darts have some holes to fill. "You can't replace players like Ben and Kelly. We have tilts problem every year. explains Dickson. "This year we have, I feel, the same amount of talent and experience that we had the year we went to the championship game in '94." We have a lot of seniors with experience and leadership. To begin wdh Jeff Fowler at quarterback. Merrick Jackson and Casey Hill in the backfield. and Jeff Allred and Travis Bowen at wide receivers. That's a fair amount of talent to pool from and we leel very good about our team. For Coach Dickson this will be Ins 13th year as the head coach of the Darts. By Ins side will he Jay Welk with the delensivc backs and wide receivers Jim Batchelor working with the linebackers and corner-backRuss Jones will take cure of the running hacks, and Coach Dickson will take care of the offensive and defensive lines. Also on the sidelines will be Skip I ) Player to watch... Number 54 is Derek Child. Leo. Troy Anderson and longtime Darts coach Kent Draayer. "It's hard to replace Brue said Dickson us so many because he ha, ... , ways and we really appreciate his contributions. One of the many constants about Davis High is the double wing offense. We really don't want to fix what's not broken, but we are going hack to more of the basics this year." Dickson explains. Many of the players have important roles with the team and in particular Jeff Fow ler. Merrick Jackson, Casey Hill and Travis Bowen. Fowler tries to lead by example. I'm not a type of guy. hut I will get into someone's face if I thmk they can do better. Some of the goals that I have are to lead by rah-ra- h example, and make things happen this year. As a team we have a lot of heart and skills; we need to reali.e that this is a team game and personal ambitions are second to the team. Merrick Jackson who will be running with Casey Hill wants to provide some excitement on the field for the team. As a team we want to perform how we know we can with NO mental letdowns." Jackson knows that with Warden gone the team has to come together. "We feel that we could have a better backfield this year because we can't rely on Ben for all the tough yards One of Jackson's personal goals is to run a kickoff back for a touchdown to provide some spark for the team For Casey Hill like many other players they will never forget the THE BLUE RIBBON ACCOUNT GIVES YOU ALL THESE ADVANTAGES. 5 Adam Preace Aug. 30 Davis 26, Northridge year they were sophomores and playing for the state championship. Hill feels that they need to take each game, step by step. Last year was tough for us, we had a good team. This year I want to instill in the younger players the pride we feel in Davis High. That pride can carry us a long way. It was so much fun on the 94 team because all they guys were like brothers to me. We need to feel that we are the best of buddies and love this team." $ 3-- Coach: Jim Dickson Sept. 6 CLEARFIELD 7 p.m. Sept. 13 PROVO 7 p.m. Sept. 20 VIEWMONT 7 p.m. Sept. 25 bye Oct. 4 at Cottonwood pcrsonaiicd checks Oct. 17 at Highland 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at Bountiful 7 p.m. Bountifuls Best Buys dairy DRIVE THRU No annua! fee for VISA Free cashier's checks Free safety deposit box Tree financial planning consultation free travelers chaks Fain inlciest on your balance (Subject to credit approval) Monthly sen ice charge waived with mmnimim balance Barnes Banking Co.
