Show page 6 Friday, August 2, Davis Country Clipper 1996 obituaries Staff Sergeant Benjamin Locke Gillespie Our wonderful husband, father, son, brother and fnend was separated from us in death, July 26, 1996. in a training accident while stationed in Colorado and big heart He will be remembered as a lo ing husband and father whose family always came first, a person who loved life and people for his easy laugh and ot course, his constant smile Bom April 20, 1966 to Ardell and Almon Dean Gillespie, graduated tiom Woods Cross High School in 1986 Married to Veronica September 14. 1984 Enlisted with Roger H. the U S Army September 15, 1983 He served time in Bamberg, Germany with the 22 ACR, where he worked with the EastWest German border patrol and in Ft Carson, Colo with the 27 CAV Served with the Salt Lake City Recruiting Battalion, stationed out of South Salt Lake from 1990-94- , before returning to the duty which he loved, which was working with the troops His final station before being called to duty with the Lord was with the Scout Platoon of HHC 168 Armor. Ft Carson. Colo He earned many honors during his career two Army including Accommodations Medals, six Amiy Achievement Medals The Gold Recruiter Badge with three Sapphire Achievement Stars, The Recruiter's Ring. The Order ot the Cobra, and two Meritorious Service Medals (one to be issued posthumously ) Survived by wife and son. Minnesota Funeral services were held July Henry and Syracuse, Utah Elmer graduated from Davis High and his many classes in the LDS Church He was an avid reader who had a great storehouse of knowledge and loved to share it with others He loved rock hunting and owned Oaks Rock Shop where he gave away more rocks than he sold His love of nature brought much joy to him and his family He especially enjoyed growing a veg etable garden and beautiful flowers He loved cloud formations School received and photographed and wrote a book about clouds He also wrote an extensive fife history bachelors from degree State Utah University He was an Eagle Scout and served an LDS mission to the Northern States Mission in 1931, serving most ot his mission in Minnesota and W isconsin He married Laura Ruth Fullmer Nov 5, 1947 in the Elmer leaves a great legacy with the many young people whose fives he influenced He is survived by his son Brent and wife Ann of Bountiful and their children Kaysv i lie and Elementary where he formed his famous Pebble Up Society He finished his teaching caieer at Sunset Elementary and Sunset Jr High where he taught science Elmer was a gifted teacher and had a great love lor his students, many who remained his friends throughout his file He dedicated much ot his file to scouting, touching the fives of hundreds of young men In 1976 he received the Silver Beaver Award He also served in the bishopric in Syracuse and taught 22. 1996 in Salt Lake City with interment in the Bountiful City Cemetery Read the articles in Pamela and brothers Hugh David, Myron, Darvil and Ben Funeral services will be held a m Saturday, Aug 3, 1996 at 0th Ward 141 at the Syracuse S 2500 W .
