Show ' x 1 USA Gymnastics World Salt Lake City Olympic bid enters one-yea-r countdown SALT LAKE CITY Countdown to Budapest, the official kickoff in a series of more than 100 Olympic events which will take place over the next year, will be held June 16 at La Caille at Quail Run restaurant' in Salt Lake City for invited guests of the bid committee. Following a Hungarian theme throughout the evening, the event is exactly 365 days from the date the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will select a host city for the 2002 Winter Games in Budapest, Hungary. Topping the evenings events will be the unveiling of a three-sideOlympic countdown sign which will have the number of days to the Olympic bid prominently displayed. Following the event, the sign will be moved to the grounds of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce offices on the comer of 400 South and State streets. The countdown date will be changed each morning, as the city and state moves closer to the June 16, 1995 decision of the IOC. The Olympic Odyssey, a fireworks extravaganza, will also be premiered at the vent. The show combines a spirited Olympic theme with music and will be used throughout the coming year to create awareness of the Olympic movement in Utah. More than 500,000 Utahns are expected to see the production before the IOC vote. In addition, the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will be coordinating a series of public awareness events. The campaign includes an Olympic float for parades, a World is Welcome Here memorabilia wagon, receptions, promotions and banners.
