The group of friends were injured when this vehicle they were riding in rolled over four times near the Bountiful "B". The vehicle, a 1989 Chevrolet Suburban, was driven by Nate Green, 18. ' ACCIDENT continued from front lacerations. Parents of the injured teens cannot believe their sons survived the crash which totaled the vehicle. They are lucky they arent dead, said Mrs. Lana Swanson whose son suffered a broken collar bone in the accident. Nathan told me he thought he was dead when the truck began to roll. "They are lucky they aren't dead, Nathan told me he thought he was dead . . . when the truck began to roll.' -- Mrs Lana Swanson mother of one injured teenager Mrs. Loretta Peterson agreed. Im just grateful no one was killed, she said. Mark Peterson, who suffered a laceration on his face which required 20 stitches to close, said he feels lucky. He explained that the group had decided to try the Suburban on SOB, the name given to the most difficult hill to climb in the area. We had gone up two times and decided to try a third time. When we got to the top we lost the transmission and we started he said. rolling backwards, Peterson was thrown out the back window of the vehicle which landed about 50 feet from him. nor Swanson blame Green for the accident. We had a choice of whether or not to be there, said Swanson. I made a stupid choice, said Peterson. " I'm just grateful no one was killed.' When he awakened he was still inside the vehicle and the paramedics were trying to reach him. None of the others in the vehicle had been drinking, but for Swanson and Peterson that was little consolation. It was a real dumb choice to be there, especially since Nate had been drinking and was driving, said Peterson who said We Green is his best friend. should have tried to talk him out of it, he said. Swanson agreed. I should have said Pull over and let me out of the car now, but I didnt. Its not worth it to ride like that. We should have been dead. Kids are going to think Its not going to happen to you, but it does, he said. Neither Peterson Christine Green said her son is still recovering from the shock of what happened. Nate is home now and we are seeing a counselor. We are just so grateful that no one was killed. These kids have had a couple of rough years. They are lucky to be alive, she said. Green is still facing a court arraignment. Bountiful Police Chief Larry Higgins said the area where the accident occurred is very dangerous. Its bad in the daylight and worse at night It is very, very steep and at night with your headlights in the air you cant see the terrain, he said. Higgins said officers do patrol the area and citations will be issued to anyone trespassing on public land and damaging the watershed or causing erosion. continued from front Christopher A. The plant will meet approximately 15 percent of UAMPS 1994 aggregate peak demand of 242 megawatts. UAMPS financed the purchase with $35.6 million in tax free municipal bonds. (Three of the project participants, including Bountiful, prepaid their entitlement shares, reducing the bond issuance below the purchase price.) The bonds earned a triple-- certified tax rate could approved with the 1994-9- 5 budget. The city must set the tax rate by the end of June as required by law. The person asks my supporters what they know about me. If they say they know me well and ask the reason for the question, the caller said he is not at liberty to divulge that information. Lyon flatly denied that she, or anyone connected with her campaign is trying to discredit Bradford. Im campaigning on my track record not on his, she said. Questions regarding his qualifications, his competence and his ability have been raised to me. But it is absolutely ridiculous to believe my husband would be involved in calling. An examination of her voting record shows that she voted for things that would have even startled a liberal democrat a few years ago. Bradford said he supports traditional Republican principles, private property rights, free enterprise and limited government. He believes that things go better when people make their own choices. Its been my observation that things go better when people make their own decisions and when they spend their own money, he said. There is a trend for elected officials to feel that they are smarter than the average citizen and that they can make decisions better than we can ourselves. Government is not better or smarter than the people. Quotes for the week ending June 10, 1994 You could get by with 3 percent franchise tax instead of 6 percent.
