I was pleasantly surprised at our performance, Coach Glen Partridge commented, saying he figured the Wolves might finish third or fourth. Were on schedule, the coach said, as he prepared his squad for a meet Thursday, April 13, in Kanab (a meet for contenders from Region 8) and another meet Tuesday, April 18, in n Spanish Payson, Fork with Millard Juab, and Springville. Host Richfield placed second with 45Mi points, followed by Moab in third place with 40 points; Milford, fourth with 30, and Manti, fifth with 29. Coach Partridge reiterated his belief that Milford is the team to beat in track. Theyre not at full strength, he noted, with several outstanding Milford contenders out of action with injuries and the like. Three of the Wolves already have qualified for the State Class track meet by equalling or exceeding standards of time and distance set by the state. Todd Kennedy qualified in the mile run; Randy Burr in the high jump, and Newell Hales in the discus at the Dixie Invitational held April 1. The meet is one of three in which high school track competitors may qualify - the others are the Snow College and Brigham Young University meets. Four of the Wolves placed in the discus throw at the Richfield competition, and three of them recorded their own best efforts. Scott Anderson won the event with a throw of 142'6, while teammate Kendall Hales was second with 13611.
