Show Lakeside Review, Wednesday, Oct. Tony Frankino Tony Sorensen Bruce Park Cory Chapman recently wrote an article entitled Land Swap Plan Could Hurt Tourism." Contrary to Bauman's assertion. neither the governor, nor any member of the Board of State Lands, nor anyone else with authority and knowledge has promarina posed that a would be constructed at Lake Jared Sampson Who will win World The World Series remains one of the few sporting events that surpasses both media and public expectations. And this year is no different. Our Boys of Summer are at it again in what has proven to be a most interesting season of baseball. The 1989 baseball season has brought us Cub fever, the Cinderella Baltimore Orioles and now the repeat performance of the Bash Brothers and Co. as they make yet another trip to what may prove to be a October slugfest. However, this year the World Series, which will begin in Oakland on Saturday, Oct. 14, will include only night games. But like automobiles and ice cream flavors everyone has his or her favorite. In random interviews, the Lakeside Review asked local residents which team they preferred in the World Series and why. Fred Thompson, Roy baseball coach, was also asked his opinion worst-to-fir- st -, Street talk on the Series. Fred Thompson, baseball coach for the Roy High Royals My sentiment goes to San Francisco. Ive been a Giants fan my whole life. But you have to be careful in doing an evaluation with your heart. But the Giants are a pretty dang good team. Last year Oakland was powerful, but the National League pitching put them away. If this year is anything like last year Oakland has got some problems. That is my feeling, but that is with a little bit of heart. I think this could be one of the most powerful series we have seen in a long time. I think the Giants are the better team all around. But you cant discount Rickey Henderson, he could become Mr. October. Bruce Park, owner of Laytons Card Attic - Id like to see the As and the Giants because I state-owne- d think it would be neat. It would be a Bay series and both teams from the West Coast. And out of those two teams I would probably have to go with the As. I think they actually deserved to win it last year but they were upset by the Dodgers. And this year with Rickey Henderson coming over (from the New York Yankees) he has been the nucleus that has really spurred them on. I just dont see how anybody can lose with the Bash Brothers (Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire) and and Henderson. Tony Sorensen, Layton - I would like the Oakland As and San Francisco Giants. I think the As are going to win the Series because they have the speed and the power. Rickey Henderson just tore up the (American League) championship series and Canseco and McGwire they speak for themselves. So, I think it will be the As. Tony Frankino, Clearfield - I Powell. He has the gall to accuse state officials of being irresponsible, to say that there should be no marinas or development on state would like to see the As and Cubs because I think it would be a good matchup of speed and my favorite team is the Cubs because Ive followed them for two years. But they have no chance at all. Between the As and Giants I would like to see the Giants win. Anybody that has got the that the Giants have believe that the federal government has two responsibilities it has refused to meet: (1) To honor and fulfill its legal responsibility to live up to provisions of the School Trust in the Enabling Act: (2) to fairly compensate, by exchange, those lands that should not be developed. They have refused to do so in some cases for 25 years, even when legislation that created the park areas had that requirement spelled out in the law. Finally, we have a governor, administration and a board who are taking these trust responsibilities seriously and who are sick and tired of seeing the educational and economic interests of the school children of Utah trampled on bv the National Park Service. They should support Banger-ter- s Lake Powell Land Trade Proposal. Calvin Black, Chairman San Juan County Commission We also enough. Theyre going to do it. Theyve got the homerun hitters do it. Of course (theyll beat the As). - Jared Sampson, Kaysville - I like the Chicago Cubs because I'm a Chicago fan and I like all the teams in Chicago. And I like Andre Dawson, he is an excellent player. If it is the A's and the Giants I would like the As to go because Im a Jose Canseco fan and they were robbed last year and I think they are deserving of it. 3 trust. lands for state school income when experts" in the Park Service have decided what is ways have a chance. Some of these lands are covered by Lake Powell, while some were in excellent development locations.
