Show 6A Lakeside Review, Wednesday, August 31, 1988 Deputies issue almost 500 tickets on Highway 89 said Captain K.D. Simpson of the Davis County Sheriffs Depart- ment. On July 4 and 24th there was RUTH MALAN Lakeside Review correspondent A recent FRUIT HEIGHTS intense traffic enforcement cam- paign on Highway 89, resulted in not much activity, said Simp- 497 citations issued by deputies, son. The highest number of cita- - tions were issued on July 1 with a total of 46, the least amount is- sued was on the 29th when seven were issued. We think the program was ef-fective. The average speed dropped from 61 to 59 miles per hour in the 10 blocks measured, he said. The department is still using patrol units on the road, but at a reduced rate. In a letter to the Utah Depart- ment of Transportation, Simpson has asked to have the 55 mph speed limit painted on the road. Every year we have two fatali- - ties. By increasing enforcement here it helps other areas, he said. - The Highway Patrol issued 211 citations during the same period, said Simpson. Council views model of new county jail JO-AN- He said the complex would use CALLAHAN only a portion of the land and showed drawings of how the Davis County fairgrounds could be located on the same property. We would have security at the fair complex and have the manpower to maintain the grounds and make improvements, he said. There are natural buffers around the property but it is an emotional fear that people have of prisons. It is an imaginary thing, he said. When the Sugar House prison was built it was away from the city the same as the new Gunnison facility is today, but in a few years there were houses all around it. It looked like Camelot except not as attractive. Lakeside Review correspondent FARMINGTON The City Council saw a scale model of the new Davis County Jail to be built in west Farmington. This is still in the planning nature, said County Commissioner Harold Tippetts, but the building is now within the budget and we will call for the bids soon. The county public safety complex will be built on 40 acres of land at the end of State Street in the newly annexed west area of the city, he told the council during a recent meeting. Tippetts said, We are planning for the future. We will not have the situation that we have in the center of town (Farmington). We have plenty of room. 24-ho- ur , Kaysville bans outside burning KASYVILLE The City Council has placed a moratorium on outside burning at the recommendation of Kaysvilles Fire Chief Don Howard. Howard asked that the burning restrictions override the EPA law that allows farmers to burn, said Mayor Jerry Purdy. The motion passed unanimously and the Police Department was informed not to issue burning permits. In other business to come before the council, approval was given to purchase two replacement cars for the police department. The city will purchase the two vehicles at a cost of $26,140 from Murdock Chevrolet in Bountiful. The city will be trading in two Impalas used by the police force. Dedication slated for new city shop Synthetic ROY Dedication of the new city shop building is scheduled for Sept. 28, Scott Berry, public works director said. ; Originally set for Aug. 7, the date was changed to prevent a conflict with the dedication of the Weber County Fairgrounds. Other dates suggested by Berry also conflicted with other events. Lubricants .
