Show A forum for opinion view Wednesday April 8, 1987 New concept offers benefits Letters to the editor Volunteers did fine job for recreation Its different, its daring, but officials from two small communities are hoping it will Review editor During the past months much has been written and discussed about the resignation of Mr. Ron Osborn, Recreation Director of n volFarmington and his unteer board. My husband, having served on that board, has been involved in many of the activities of Farmington Citys recreation. It has been through such activities that we have had the pleasure of associating with many outstanding Farmington youth and their fami- In our view work. I find it interesting to note that it has always been the same people willing to volunteer their time and efforts when things had to be done. Because of the dedication of people like these I believe Far- mingtons reputation for an excellent recreation program has evolved. Other people find it easier on the other hand to find fault in the program and complain about unfair treatment, or cry foul over team selections, coaching, etc. 'These criticisms are never voiced publicly but muttered and discussed only as complaints rather than submitted as constructive alternatives to be reviewed by the recreation board. Several such ideas were brought before the recreation board and Mr. Osborn. After review some changes were implemented while others were found less feasible and were not introduced into the program. Because there was a director and functioning board. This was one of the reasons our recreation program has been so successful. Success is never achieved by people who merely stand back and complain.'It is accomplished by people willing to make any effort working hard to see that their goals are accomplished. Mr. Osborn is certainly a doer! Wanting a first class program and willing to put the time and effort required to accomplish this goal. Those who have been so critical in the past should now step forward and take charge. They will soon find all is not easy as it seems and realize that they should not have been so quick to find fault. Marsha Yamasaki Farmington 3A Letters to the editor Don't let cats eat cellophane grass Review editor With Easter rapidly approaching, I would like to warn cat owners not to bring home that cellophane Easter grass, (usually found in Easter baskets.) If a cat swallows just one strand of this fake grass, it can become entangled in his intes tines causing serious problems, usually death. I speak from experience. Last Easter, a friends cat, who is especially fond of greens, apparently mistook the cellophane grass for the real thing. Luckily, he escaped serious trouble, but the veterinarian stressed how important it is to keep such things away from cats. The Humane Society of the United States said that every Easter many, many cats become victims of the fake grass. I just wanted to pass this information along to cat owners. Mrs. Ruth Neish Bountiful low suit. Sunset and Clinton now in a sense share police departments, according to an interlocal agreement. Though only time will tell how the program will work, there is an immediate and significant benefit to be derived from this consolidation of departments. Both communities will have much better coverage now, police chiefs say. Clinton Police Chief Leroy Webb and acting Sunset police chief Lt. Bruce Gunderson say the new arrangement will provide better police coverage of the areas. Up to four officers may be on duty during peak hours, they say. Though Sunset always had coverage under the 24-ho- ur ht Better citizen protection is reason enough to embark on such a program, and reason enough for other small communities to look into the details of such an agreement. The departments will share training and all police functions, including investigations and reports, according to Webb. The payroll situation will remain unchanged, however. The five Clinton officers will remain on that citys payroll and the seven Sunset officers will receive their paychecks from Sunset The new concept offers the main benefit of better police coverage for the residents and other cities are encouraged to seriously look into this innovative system.
