Staff CLEARFIELD- - A gray and white pigeon was found around noon today near an apartment complex with a band on its leg that said 1984 America." The bird may be one released in Los Angeles as part of the 1984 Olympics opening ceremonies. Patti Kearl, who captured the bird, said she received a call from a neighbor that some children in front of the building were trying to catch the bird. Ms. Kearl said she ran out and saw the pigeon running around. It couldnt fly; I dont know if it was too tired or just scared. It was so frightened I couldnt believe it," she said. She called the Davis County Animal Control Officer to get more information on the bird. According to information the department may have recieved, the bird may be one of the pigeons let loose during this summers Olympics in Los Angeles, Calif. An employee at the shelter contacted an Ogden pigeon raiser, Ralph Rivera, who said he comfortably in a box in her bedroom. Its fine right now, but a little scared. thought the bird was one of the thousands let loose during the Olympic games. Rivera alsd attended the Olympics this year. But Tom Haverty, of the Humane Society of Utah, in Salt Lake City, said the band was not a usual band and there is really no way of tracing its origin." Though it is a possiblity, he said he had never heard of the Olympic pigeons, let loose every year during the games, being banded. Ms. Kearl said the gray-an- d white- - spotted bird is resting She added that "everyone wants to see the bird right now and touch it, thought she it trying to keep the bird alone. Different people are trying to get the bird. Im having a hassle about it right now, she said. The bird would be taken to another private residence, she said, at least for a while.
