With midsummer's arrival, intermountain gardeners can take some time off to enjoy their gardens. Flowering plants and vegetables will be growing fast now; watering and fertilizing are important, as is planting vegetables for fall harvest, reports the July issue of Sunset Magazine. High on the intermountain gardeners checklist is feeding. Sunsets Intermountain Garden Guide suggests applying a nitrogen food to vegetables: add a kind to irrigation water or spread dry fertilizer in a trench alongside the rows. As for annuals, feed those in the ground with a fertilizer. For containers, use a complete fertilizer with about nitrogen phosphorus potassium (NPK) ratio (you can fertilize twice as often at Niel-Isor- tljc water-- soluble n, at high-nitrog- en -2 mac-yan- te ELMER C. AND GLADYS F. NIELSON . ,i half-strengt- After fertilizing, water thoroughly. For harvesting vegetables in late summer or fall (except in highest altitudes), plant beets, bush beans, carrots, corn, green onions, kale, lettuce, mustard, radishes, Swiss chard and turnips. Below 5,000 feet, plant winter squash among spinach; it will cover when the spinach is harvested. Now is also a good time to thin and feed fruit trees. On those with a heavy set, thin the fruit so remaining ones will be larger. Spread nitrogen fertilizer at the drip line of apples, apricot, cherry, peach and plum trees; water in thoroughly. With ground covers, lawns, shrubs and trees, continue a regular program. Water only when plants require it. deep-wateri- Welcome Food Stamp Shoppers -- . i LONDON BROIL 4 UTAH cabbaGE gonelo bump boast to to Hickory SMOK to v Juicy Grp1 Fryer N boneless hams lb. jxjr.mo 5.7 Extra Ctt3EJ5 FRATIUS to lOO 2 lb. ore-id- a :ATOU TOT. 0) mb - MO So )Wjop IS " ct.
