Jolene Layton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Layton, 2796 E. 3575 N., Layton, was accepted into the prestigious group last month. Miss Layton began playing the cello while a fifth grade student at Vae View Elementary in the ; school's music program. Even then her love for the instrument was evident and she was often seen pulling her cello home in a special cart after school for home practice. Those hours of practice paid off and by the time she was a student at Layton High she had already participated in several musical performances and solo ' ensemble events. During the summers of her three high school years, she attended , music clinics at Utah State University. Last summer she was seated in the first chair position because of her talent and abilities on the cello. Miss Layton has participated in the All State Orchestra for the past three years and has consistently placed in the top three chairs in the state competition during that event. She received superior ratings at the state solo ensemble competition for the past two- years, ; work on the Weber County Sheriffs building in Roy. They will be building and installing school picnic tables in Coalville; curb, gutter, and sidewalks at citizens center in Clearfield; and a road to a rifle range near Centerville. The Job Corps Program was established in 1964 to provide vocational training and education to youth who were unemployable due to lack of education, training, and social environment. Since that time, thousand of young people have benefited from the vocational and educational training provided, and have been placed in jobs where they can join the mainstream of American society. The placement of persons into productive jobs, rather than have them be a drain on our economic and social systems, has made Job Corps a truly program. MODELING AND FINISHING SCHOOL O system. A major milestone occurred in computer direction with installation of the IBM 3083 computer to replace .the smaller IBM 4341 which will be retained to support expanded services planned for the information center. Capable of processing approxi-- i mately five million memory calculations per second, the 3083 is designed to have increased workloads six times its current capability. The IBM 3083 is supporting such base projects as scientific and engineering workloads for the Minuteman and other major weapon systems. The 3083 also supports automatic test equipment, and numerical control compilers at all the Air Logistics Centers through computer networking to the 3083. The Peacekeeper missile will also be supported with this system through established engineering data bases shared with the Air Force Systems Command's Ballistic Missile Office.
