The Lions got the first score of the game on a 15 footer by Curtis Burton with 7:37in the first period. Box Elder then started their scoring attacks and Pay-so- n playing tough baU but having turnovers and later, foul trouble just couldnt hold down the Bees. Box Elder displayed a fine center in Thompson who scored 50 points against Sky View earlier in the year and scored well against the Lions in every quarter. Thompson during the first quarter picked up 6 points and was having a real battle with Gary Weight on the boards. The Lions were in foul trouble early as Curtis Burton picked up his 2nd foul before 3 minutes of the game had elapsed. The Lions taking a lot of outside shots in spurts were not hitting and when they worked the ball in they turned it over. The Lions were game though and continued to fight back and as the first quarter ended the score stood Box Elder 21 and The second quarter opened with the Lions working the ball into Weight more often and being successful as Weight picked up 3 baskets in less than 2 and a half But at the same time Box minutes. Elder had found the range on long shots and Sacket got 3 long 18 footers and Thompson continued to score too. With 6:18 left in the half the score stood 29-Box Elder. The Lions had Burton on the bench because of his two quick personals and Jim Durrant started over Brad Olson so now "With Payson trying to fight back Burton and Olson were put in with in minutes of each other and Bdrton quickly hit a long one and Carter followed with another basket but Thompson and Les Smith scored for Box Elder and with 4:04 the Lions were With still down 7 with the score 3. 3:38 left in the half Weight was fouled by Scott Smith and that was his third foul Weight made both shots and seconds later Weight scored underneath and was fouled by Thompson and Weight again converted from the line. This put the Lions down by only 4 with 2:56 left in the half. But now Thompson and Sacket started picking up the slack as Sacket got a quick 15 footer and then Brad Olson scored for the Lions. Then Curtis Burton hit another outside shot with 1:44 and the momentum was moving to the Lions. Then Quigley who had replaced Burton earlier and still in the game picked up his3rdfoul with 1:09 in the half and Sacket hit 2 free throws. Next Burton fouled Thompson with :50 seconds and then Curtis Burton got his 4th foul with :29 seconds and Les Smith hit 1 free throw and the Lions in deep foul trouble fell behind at the half 6. The third quarter opened with both teams trying to sustain momentum or establish some. The Lions down 10 had to fire away and put the ball up to try and get back at Box Elder but it wasnt to be as Payson scored only 9 points in the whole third quarter. This was the quarter that Box Elder pulled away as they rolled up 21 points with Thompson getting 10 of the 21. 'The play got ragged at times with steals and violations on both sides but the majority of the turnovers were on the Lions. At the end of the third period the score stood Lions 45 and Box Elder 67. With the Lions down by 22 the Lions substituted freely in the fourth quarter letting all the players play. Weight, and Carter did some fine rebounding at times and in the fourth quarter Terry Carter got hot and got 6 points and Robert Warren came off the bench to make some fine defensive blocks but the Lions were just to far down to come back and Box Elder won the game For Box Elder Thompson had 33 points and Sacket had 22 with some good outside shooting. Payson had some fine performances by Gary Weight who picked up 21 points and Terry Carter got 15 and both rebounded well. The Lions now piay Cyprus and Layton on the 16th and 18th both away. Gary Weight was picking up rebounds and points in bundles and Curt Burton was doing his share of scoring too. The third quarter ended 0 and the fourth quarter was more of the wild tight battle. The Lions finally took a 4 point edge with 4:48 left in the game after a basket by Quigley and a couple of long ones by Terry Carter. Weight, making moves like pictures and drawing fouls now got Scott Nielson to foul him and he made both free throws and the score after a McArthur goal stood with 3:56 left in the game. Weight 0 continued his outstanding play and got another quick bucket after some free throws by Emery and the Lions held their 4 point lead with 3:06 on the clock. 2, The Lions now working very deliberately found Weight underneath and Weight scored again but Guyman scored for Emery and 4 the score was Payson with 2:14 Scott McArthur was playing a left. fantastic game for Emery and made a good pass to Swinburne of Emery now and Swinburne scored.
