The State Highway Department, Department of Natural Resources, and all Law Enforcement are taking a dim view of any kind of littering no matter how minor. The Judges and courts throughout the State are cooperating fully with the various agencies on their arrests for littering and the fines that are coming from the courts are expensive. In some cases road cleaning projects and jail sentences are being given along with the fines. To cite a local example on July 11, in the Santaquin area a young lady was observed by Fish and Game Conservation Officer Dale Gurley in the act of throwing beer cans on the highway. She was stopped and issued a citation for littering. When she appeared before Judge Jay Petersen in Santaquin she was fined $50.00 and 25 days in jail. The jail sentence in this case was suspended on the payment of the fine. So litterers beware, that litterbit you leave behind may come back to take a bite out of your pocketbook.
