Council and Diana Spencer former Humanities Council member eEMEEE) EPHRAIM — After protests several members of the Ephraim volunteer ambulance association about the city’s consideration of an alternate site the city council decided to let the association move forward with plans to build a new ambulance shed at the originally planned cation The lot the city was considering as an alternate to the original location is southeast of the city building and is currently occupied by sheds that formerly housed the Department of Wildlife Resources At the Sept 8 city council from headed meeting the delegation Kari President by Association Amoldsen requested that the city council stick with its original plan to build the shed between the telephone company’s building and the old Ephraim hotel on west Center Street The main consideration for placing the shed at the original location is safety according to association members who are wary of the narrow' somewhat blind lane they would have to use coming in and out of the ambulance building if it w ere built at the ternate location “Direct access to Main Street is faster and safer" affirmed Amoldsen She also explained that a Community Impact Board loan for the shed was based on the initial location and might be affected by changing the plan The association also pointed out the benefit of possibly buying or using 50 feet of space currently belonging to the hotel lot for necessary parking The association members uniformly agreed that the parking situation at the alternate site would be inadequate Mayor Morris Caspcrson asked if should the original location prove to be unsatisfactory the ambulance association would still consider the alternative or if they would have to “start the process all over again" Amoldsen indicated that the lot south of the city building was “out” The alternate site was considered mainly because of concerns raised by council member Jannctte Anderson who would rather have the space used for commercial development After discussing w hether the ambulance shed at the Main Street location w ould be the best use of the area the council decided to let the association stick with the original site NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT the regularly scheduled Gunnison City Council meeting for September 15 2004 has been cancelled The next council meeting will he Wednesday September 22 2(X)4 at 8:00 pm
