will be held from 7 to pm at the elementary school Enjoy local stars as the drama and music classes present two short plays "The Elves and The Shoemaker” and “Goldilocks and The Three Bears” and several musical selections There will be two representatives from Hansen Planetarium with slide presentations and telescopes to teach about the stars They will also be showing the latest pictures from ison City Council in a meeting June 18 Council Member Marianne Kjar has taken a job in Provo and has resigned The council discussed whether they should appoint a member now or wait until after the November election to appoint as the new member a person who has won the majority vote The council decided to consult with the eague of Cities lawyer before making a decision In other matters the council approved a $592978 budget for fiscal year 1998 compared to last year’s budget of $561080 The council reviewed two bids for garbage contracts Ivan Munk currently servicing the city met with the council and promised proved service delivered personally instead ofthrough hired help His bid of $560 came in as lowest compared to White Sanitation’s at $700 per month Ifthe city hires White’s the garbage bill will raise to $1020 per month for Gunnison residents The council was divided on the motion to make a contract with White’s Sanitation Boyd Brady and Elizabeth Jensen felt citizens would approve of a fee increase if it meant better service The city has just paid off the $50000 bill for garbage cans but White’s doesn’t use the same kind of can White’s bid however cluded a promise to purchase the city’s cans Council MemBtsr'Rodney Taylor said “We’ve got cans in place that would last years” Taylor was willing to give Munk a probation period to make good on his “We can go the other way any promises time” said Taylor He was in favor of saving money on garbage service Administrator Ray Limb pointed out that certain homes in town are still waiting for bulky waste to be picked up bulk pick up doesn’t work he said White’s has promised to take bulky items as part of their weekly service Although the bid specified a weekly bulk pick up Munk’s bid didn’t mention it The council decided to table the topic until the next meeting Limb was signed to contact Munk and find out if his bid included weekly bulk pick up Council Member Brian Jensen reported that the architects have gone as far as they can in plans for the pool without an exact location The building will be 23 feet by 260 feet and will not fit where the old pool is Ray Limb was instructed to create a diagram of the park and a separate one of the pool building to help the council decide on the best location The council reviewed a le'ter from high school Principal Donald Hih requesting a city donation towards Officer Virgel Blackham resigned Tuesday June 17 1997 for personal and health related reasons according to Administrator Greg Rosen vail Rosenvall said Blackham left on “good terms” and that he was
