Show Local quilter to participate in Jessica Drown - Living Betty Roberts Gunnison quilter has been invited to demonstrate quilts and quilting at the “Living Traditions Festival: A Celebration of Salt Lake’s Ethnic and Folk Artists” For the last ten years the Salt Lake Arts Council's Folk Arts Program has held a special Arts festival each May Over sixty performing groups dance and play on two stages twenty non profit ethnic organizations sell food and 30 craft artists demonstrate how they make their creations Betty will participate in the Crafts demonstration area This year a Centennial Project Grant enabled the councils to invite traditional artists outside of Salt Lake County to participate Betty has taught a number of classes and workshops in Gunnison and Ephraim both in Relief Society and for the public She has sparked an enthusiasm and interest in the art of piecing quilts Blackburn large Betty works at home or at workshop settings and has finished quilts pieced 6 other quilts and a number of wall hangings in a 15 year She spends an average of 500 hours on each large quilt that she period makes can cope with cancer' program offered 'I Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and The American Cancer Society will cosponsor classes for people with cancer their family and friends Classes are held each Wednesday from pm in the 7th floor classroom at UVRMC 1034 N 500 West A minimum of four w eekly sessions are offered Participants can attend any time starting any week of the month Extra sessions will be offered if a group identifies a topic they want to discuss During this time particinutrition pants will learn about cancer diagnosis treatment exercise stress management and community resources The I Can Cope program gives participants an opportunity to share their concerns with others having similar experiences and to design ways to Guest speakcope with the challenges that arise from a cancer diagnosis In addition ers include professionals in the field of cancer management inforvideotapes print materials and class discussion provide mation for patients family and friends There is no charge for I Can Cope but registration is required For more information and for registration contact Marge Whitman at 37 7759 and leave your name and number w here you can be reached garlic bread milk or juice March 10 -
