earned a spot to compete at state drama to be held April at Pineview The sis students going to state are Jennie Chandler for monolog Justin Parkinson and Krystal Young in dramatic reading Dorothce Wright Jodie Stanworth and Josh Ashcraft Rachel Rawlinson in scenes In pantomime it will be Kalae Rowley Emiilie Hawkes and Corinnc Dewsnup A group of eight Delta High students also did one scene from a play called “Her Senior Year" The scene lasted about a half and hour and Delta took second overall and will move on to state with this piece The students in it are Dorothce Wright Nissa Roper Josh Ashcraft Rachel Rawlinson Tiffany Howes Richard and Justin Tracy Taylor Wright Parkinson Drama teacher Becky Prestwich said "It's fun to go with such self motivated kids They prepared all on their own and succeed on their ow n also It makes me so happy for them because they worked for it” Region w as held for four schools Delta North Sanpete Emery and Carbon at North Sanpete Jodie Stanworth and Dorothee Wright did a humorous scene together and took third overall and they will be performing this piece at state loved it Wright said "It was great completely! am so excited about being selected to go to state and about actually placing in region am very thankful for this opportunity" Vocal ensembles and solos are going to state by Teddy Hristova DHS - Delta students are going to state for Sanpete forward Ricky Spencer scored the winning goal in the second half In the first half Delta put no ball in the net North Sanpete nearly led the game with a shot that hit the post in the first twenty minutes Though Delta mostly controlled the ball they didn't take the advantage and make the goal The first half ended with no score The Rabbits played a good game with better passing accuracy in the second half However Danny Diaz Rabbit defender was hit on the jaw by someone’s elbow He got a concussion and lost his shortterm memory The game paused for twenty minutes until an ambulance took him to the hospital Ten minutes after the accident Delta finally made the goal Spencer dribbled speedily into the box and took a shot fore the goalkeeper's attack Delta played Carbon on Wednesday and in Pineview Despite the enormous turnout of teams Della placed well individually and fifth as a team For the girls team Sandra Hales took second in high hurdles and first in intermediate Liz Hales took third in the shot put and Brittney Mecham took fifth in the shot put and fifth in the javelin Marie Pitman took fifth in the discus and seventh in the javelin Mariesa Nielson took second in the 400 and eighth in the long jump Monica Christensen earned seventh in the 00 and 200 Sandra Hales Brcanna Hill Brittney Peterson and Mariesa Nielson took founh overall in the mile relay The team is doing well but of course is still practicing hard to improve Freshmen Brittney Peterson said “We’ve been sprinting 300 and 400 hurdles to get quick” For the boys team Reno Pace took second in the high jump and Dillon Pace took second in the long jump Tyler Greathouse took second in the 100 Jordan Mecham took third in the javelin Cole Riding took eight in the javelin and Ryan Abcgglin placed third in the pole vault Senior Phil Ipson said "We can still improve but we’re where we want to be competition wise” Coach Clint Peterson also feels the team is doing well he said “There was only one 3 A team that beat us at Pineview so we are doing really well in our division" McKensie Spence loves music Hristova DHS - McKensie Spence is competing in the music category for the Sterling Scholar She has organized summer chestra a food drive during the Homecoming w eek and a summer trading group She has helped in a mentoring program and at summer school Mckensie started to play piano when she was six years old and she has played play violin since fifth grade She is been taking violin lessons for six years from two ladies from Oak City and Provo She competed in two piano competitions in fifth and eight grade and she won two gold cups Every yeartn high school she goes to state for solo "The Sterling Scholar competition helps me to serve in the community It is a challenge and it is an opportunity to get a scholarship" said Mckensie whose experience from Sterling Scholar helped her how to figure out to use the music to help other people McKensie Spence will be in UYSC chestra next Schmit DHS - Chad Losec student body president National Honor Society president and School Improvement Council board member is this year's General Sterling Scholar candidate Chad has been a driving force in the community serving as a mentor in the YFP program a singer for Bone Voce president of the Youth Advisory Board and the only youth member of the Governing Board in the Sunshine Coalition He joined fifty top students from around the state last summer at SUU for the Governor’s Honors Academy tended Boys’ State has competed with the math team for five years organized the Happy Factory service project and has tutored his peers for the last two years Chad is a member of the Academic Decathlon team and earned one gold and two silver medals at the state competition The National Federation of Music Clubs gave him six superior ratings for his piano playing He has recently received a superior rating at region Solo and Ensemble Chad has lettered four times in tennis and once in track He finished the St George Marathon twice and placed fifth in his age group in 1998 “My goal is to get a good job and make a difference in the world somehow” said Losee Gloria Pedroza in Hristova DHS - Gloria Pedroza is competing in the foreign language category for the Sterling Scholar For her projects she went to Mexico and took some toys there She also mentored Spanish kids and fifth grade in North Elementary School As a vice president of the student body presidency Gloria participated in donation of food and also she took part in the blood dnve “It is a good opportunity for me and it this month First Mrs Bliss's class came in and donated some of their beautiful hand crafted lap quilts They sang a few songs passed out some handmade cards to go with the quilts and then bid us a farewell Also Mrs Singleton brought in some 2nd and 3rd grade readers with her that read to the resident and the day care children It was such a great experience that they are coming back this week and hopefully again soon Thanks to the Delta 4th ward young women the Delta 5th ward young men and DcseretOasis ward for their talented visits We so appreciate these wonderful youth who take their time and prepare these programs for us each mouth In our facility news this month we welcome to our staff Karen Cazier a LPN along w ith Niki Bcrgcner and Sandy Maxfield two newCNA’s We are so excited about these three new hires They seem to add some brightness to the building Congratulations to Ella Gamble She is our employee of the month She has always been a team player for many many years and
