Show If Millard County Chronicle Progress May 4 2000 Page 5 Community Events Fine Arts of Delta Center Stage America The dance company Center Stage America attended a dance evaluation in American Fork and rcceiv ed superior and excellent ratings in all the dance numbers they were evaluated in Each individual girl received a trophy along ith the team trophy Center Stage America's Spring Show which was a benefit performance for Makena Rowley was a wonderful success Shen Lewis and Jennifer Dutson were responsible for the beautiful decorations Along ith the team dances dance los w e performed by Sierra Wilson Doeronica Thomas minique Moody Amanda Allen Kassidy Damron Rachelle Roper and Tence Wamick East Millard Sub for Santa Fund raising for the Sub for Santa program is again underway The Elves have been busy trying to find way to raise money as well as see that someone has a good time Due to the success of the draw mg for a weekend trip to Mesquite in last years fund rasing endeav or this y ear is going to be even better Now listen carefully! atmosphere m Dear Millard County In August of 1968 Tony Dearden was voted in as a member of the Fillmore volunteer Fire Department He spent many hours in training maintaining the equipment and fighting fires He has held most of the leadership positions in the department including Fire Chief As chief he with the help of the firemen and the 1300 hours Fire Fillmore over Station Tony spent local contractors built the himself on this project This saved the Fillmore tax payers thousands of dollars in labor costs With country and city money he purchased a new fire engine to protect Sves and property in our area He acquired several surplus fire engines to fires these engines cost very little and the work to put fight wild land and them into service was completed by Tony and the volunteers In 1985 the Millard County Fire Service Distnct was formed Tony was Fillmore s representative on the board He worked to unify the county into a district to benefit all property owners This allowed the county tax base to be shared by the twelve fire departments in the county Tony is the author of the by’avs that govern the distnct these bylaws are in use today with minor changes In 1992 under Dearden s leadership a $375000 00 grant was acquired from the Community Impact Board With matching money from the district he purchased sx new fire trucks for Delta Fillmore Oak City Hinckley Kanosh and Sctpio Every department now has the necessary equipment to provide the finest fire protection in the state Tony continues to serve as the county commission representative on the Fire Distnct Board Tony is still serving on the Fillmore Fire Department He has recently been This board appointed by Governor Leavitt to the Utah State Fire Prevention Board oversees the Utah Slate Fire Academy the fire and building codes relating to fire safety and codes for fire equipment and occupational safety We need Tony Dearden to remain in the County Commission to use his knowledge and
