Show 4- z A c Millard Delta falls in i RaNae Christensen bids retired teacher DNES farewell gets exciting kick-of- f Bradley and Ryan Withers sons of Jim and Julienc Withers of Sutherland were the first DNES students to bring a book report to the MediaLibrary for our Reading Hall of Fame They read the bxk Arrow to the Sun by Gerald McDermott Their book report was in the form of Ihieblo Indian home replicas Needless to say their nifty project has generated much interest and enthusiasm for this new component of our Hall of Fame program We thank the entire Withers family for sharing this special book and report with our school Margaret Crowell aboard DNES welcomes AiE artist For the eighth year in a row Delta North Elementary is participating in the Utah Arts Council ’s Arts in Education program This year our featured art form is Theatre We are delighted to have as our visiting artist Mrs Margaret Crowell in Margaret was bom and raised in England where she graduated with distinction drama from the Blyth School She loured the Bntish Isles and Europe with the Birmingham Repertory Company and received national recognition for her BBC she program “Poets for Posterity" Margaret now lives in Salt Lake City where in their performs as part of the Pioneer Theatre Company most recently appearing in the Disney critically acclaimed production of “My Fair Lady" She appeared movie “Hello I Must Be Going" which was Filmed in Utah during August A s part of the Arts in Education program she cond uctsresidencies and work shops on drama and Reader's Theatre throughout the stale She arrived at DNES on Monday September 21 and will remain with us for three weeks She will be visiting North at each of our grade classes at least 4 different times during her slay Della She is working daily with Mr Duane Rawlinson’s 3rd graders She has also conducted one hour workshops for our Kindergarten and 1st grade students Two special sharing assemblies have been planned for our studentbody on is Thursday October 8 at 100 p m and Friday October 9 at 930 am The public invited to attend these special events Students from Mr Rawlinson s classroom will be performing for us and there just may be a special number from the cray DNES staff as well! The three week residency is sponsored in part by Delta North Elementary the DNES PTA the Utah Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts This worthwhile program receives most of its support from tax dollars We encourage you to visit our school during the three week residency to see how your tax dollars are put to effective use with Utah's kids Thank you Swim Pool news The following have made a big “splash” in the 50 mile club: Treva Carlson 140miles Shannon Lewis 220 miles Shcllie Butterfield 20 miles DeAnn Burton 390 miles Rcy Huber 380 miles and Dorothy Shoup 220 miles Management at the pool has added 3 new plaques to the 50 mile club display Thirteen students are currently enrolled in after school swim lessons The pool is in the process of training 6 people in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course Wave aerobics has begun with 10 participants The high school swim team has 25 students working out and the age group swim team has 12 students practicing There are 9 girls participating on the synchronized swim - team All in all the pool is a very busy place Open swim hours arc weekdays from pm and Saturday from pm As always morning pm and lap swim begins each weekday at 5:30 am and Saturday at 10 am Fall officially began last week and that invariably means cooler weather The pool and racquetball courts are a great place to work out in warmth The pool is a great source of therapy for injuries or sore muscles The aerobic benefits of racquetball make it a favorite among those who also want a little competition The fall racquetball league begins soon The league play is every pm Wednesday night from Lessons The pool is trying to organize anMent other Boy Scout Swimming Badge class If you are interested call for more information The course w ill begin as soon as 6 or more boy s arc enrolled The second session of winter sw im lessons begins October 2 is required at 330 p m The fees are S2000 per child or $1500 w ith a sw un pool pass Our annual DNES Fall Social was a farewell celebration for retiring staff member RaNae Christensen We met in the lunchrixim Wednesday evening September 16 1992 at 6: 30 to honor one of our ow n for her many contributions to the educational programs of the Millard Sc luxil District The delicious meal was catered by DNES instructional assistants The program which roasted and toasted "Mrs C” was under the direction of Diane Porter Special guests that evening included Sherry Alley Marcy Hansen Louise Johnson and Betty Each of these individuals had worked closely with RaNae during the course of her employment at the elementary level "Mrs C's" illustrious teaching career has spanned a 38 and year pcriixl She has worked for four different school districts namely: Tooele Hayward (California) Murray City and Millard She has taught students at every level from Kindergarten through 12th grade She has four teaching endorsements which include: Elementary Education Secondary Education Media Library and Special Education She began her career in the Millard School District in January of 1962 She was hired as a Junior High English tcachcr-- to complete Myrlene Turners' contract at the time Myrlene gave birth to her daughter Teresa She and Jessie Gillette were the schixil's two English teachers at that time The Junior High was then located across the street from the present day fire station on the property where the Delta City Building is now housed With the completion of the new Della High School in 1966 RaNae rclixialed to the new building where she taught Junior High English Media Productions of the was director Center helped with the publication of the school newspaper The MoDel and High taught type She was at the School for years school year During the she transferred to die Delta Elementary and worked under die direction of Principal Barbara Nielson in the Instructional Media Center She was Media Coordinator for two years and then began her career as a third grade teacher at Della Elementary She taught 3rd During her final grade from years at our school she worked as a of the pioneer in the development schixil's Special Education programs Throughout her educational experience RaNae has given much to the students the parents and the staff members she has worked with Each of us is a better person this day because of our with this giant of a associations We thank her for the enTEACHER riching experiences she has so w illingly given to all The Cheetahs pulled the upset of the week last week as they topped the powerful Terminators by 2 to 0 The Cheetahs were lead by great team play and Gordon Fuller's excellent goalie play Fuller made several key saves and was also able to center the ball for his with powerful goalie kicks His effort earned him honors Cole Carling and Collin Christensen accounted for the Cheetah scoring Earlier in the week the Cheetahs were crushed by the Crushers 5 to 0 Todd Parkinson and Baden Davies each scored twice and Chase Bond scored once The B ullctcers pi ay cd the K illcrs to a 'o tic The Bullctecrs also defeated the Cheetahs 3 to 0 with two goals from Greg Wade and one from Scott Monroe 4th Grade Soccer Standings lost won tied 3 0 Killers 2 2 0 Crushers 2 2 Bullctecrs 2 2 Terminators 5 Cheetahs Players of the Week Week 4 -
