As I remember that was one of my main points And I do believe that some abused children become fictionalized Talk to anyone who has worked with abused children One of the major defense mechanisms a child will use when some one they abused by a caretaker is to develop a look to as a God “fictitious world" in which they can survive They may even develop fractured or split personalities which they carry far into the future They create a fictional world that is more manageable to them than the real world in which they live And as children increasingly learn everything from life values arc indeed segments being taught in and otherwise through the television Adults know that television is “make believe” but unfortunately children do not have adult perspective Children believe what they arc told Period And if Murphy Brown or The Simpsons or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tell them how to be that is how they will be I do consider myself intelligent - "I felt like asking” "My heart bri)kc”"I didn't know what to do” Any intelligent well educated concerned citizen would know what to do Furthermore the columnist was suming child abuse no fact based proof was given We all know that in this world you don't assume anything This column did nothing except add abusive behavior on lop of abusive behavior To help prevent child abuse wc must act on it not spread damaging gossip and rumors through the local newspaper This only adds to the problem Karen Theobald as And I’m I’m telling you what I doing my job see My job is not to heal the world My job is to let you know how sick it can be I've come to accept that many people in Millard County and I come from different worlds If I'm capable of creating such animosity merely by mentioning can only child abuse in a column imagine the furor I’d raise if I started pointing police officers in parent’s rections and raising accusations of “child abuse" I’d have to leave town for sure I saw the abuse I wasn’t assuming And my column was not gossip Further why are you defensive? And to “Someone Who Cares” at least I have the courage to sign my column and post it under my photo You admonish me for not alerting the “proper authorities” You challenge me to “let these parents know that litis kind of behavior will not be tolerated” Tough talk from someone who can’t even sign their Letter to the Editor I will continue to try to tell my point of view Your continued introspection and inventory of your own actions is all I can ask for concerned and - It Well here it is my annual autumnal column my yearly homage to the end of the year Yes end of the year Or at least that’s what believe being a memberof the Gnostic Lyceum of New York City founded and directed by the late and great Reverend Richard Atelier better know n to those of his Cong as Rev Relator The Reverend is no longer with us physically but his religious legacy is so strong and complete that I continue to regard him as my spiritual advisor (probably even more so now that he really has gone on to the spint world) t The Reverend was a prolific correspondent and gratefully I kept each and every letter he wrote to me as I moved around the world This file constitutes my ongoing spiritual connection to this strange man’s concepts his "art” as it were Of course the Reverend is only one of many thousands who over the years have been driven to the creation of art in a search for the divine but the Reverend’s quirky approach inspired me as no others have I won’t share much with you here about the Reverend space prohibits much more than the mere mention of his name I can’t go into to any depth regarding his belief system or how his art was manifested I will only say that consider myself very very fortunate to have wormed my way into his confidences his friendship his church Briefly the Reverend incorporated the CcllicDruid celebrations of the seasons as the crux of his services This continues to strike me as w ise The Celtics (or Druids) were ancient sacrificial folks of the lands wc now call England Scotland and Ireland Eventually these people travelled to Europe’s continent and some say to the Americas They worshipped the sun the stars and the earth's seasonal changes (They were a "Goddess” religion as well worshipping the maternal form another big appeal) I don't know if I believe as I do because I feel as I do or vice versa I only know that my beliefs and feelings are integrated in a way that seems intuitive and real This must be the end of the year It feels like the end of the year to me I’m melancholy yet hopeful like after a funeral The nights are getting cold the leaves ire turning colors and falling at an accelerating rate the sun seems to drench the very air with thick golden light that weighs heavy on my shoulders In less than six weeks the Day of the Dead celebrated in this country as Halloween will officially mark the sinking of life back into the soil And some believe the descent of certain spirits into the underworld while privileged ancestral souls will come into our homes to comfort themselves around the winter’s fires But this pcritxl the time between the Equinox and the All Hallow’s Eve - marks the (fme when the old year woos the Earth Mother (or Goddess of Nature) to create a new year Kinda romantic isn’t it? It is the season of the harvest moon a soft release as fruits and crops fall into ripeness and the lime when our world slips into a relaxed acceptance of winter's return when cattle are driven from their high summer pastures down into the more accessible fields for the winter It is this season that affects me the most Possibly because it is the season of my birth possibly because I so strongly believe in the spiritual corridor between this world and the next possibly because my aging Kdy increasingly signals niy mortality Unfortunately the Reverend isn’t here to counsel me But I have his letters of advice to read and ruminate And according to our beliefs the new year bursts forth December 21st That will be here before I know it on Winter Solstice - - - Inez Sez Giving Birth to My First Child Continued from front “I’m being tom in two!”I screamed in my mind and sometimes even yet can still scream in my mind “Oh it hurts so Please help me Doctor can’t you give me something to ease some of the pain? No I don’t want my baby harmed Dtxtlor you should know that even though might ask” Now I’m screaming constantly trying to ask myself "why did think gel away from all that pain But it continues relentlessly wanted to be a mother anyway?” No one prepared me for this pain Not my mother not my doctor not my husband not my sisters when they had given birth before this date of June 5 1945 Someone should have told me "Help help How much longer do I have to lie here and be all in pain” What do you mean bear dow n? I silently ask myself over and over "Push push" I’m sure I hear I'm not going through this again I felt as though a freight train was right on top of ntc “Get this train off me" How could a train get in this hospital? Well when all was said and done I had a beautiful baby son 6 pounds 4 ounces He had some problems later but grew up fine and healthy Like most mothers the birth trial was forgotten and I was blessed with three beautiful daughters page pm pm October 16 Flu Shot Clinic 11 am - 12 noon Lynndyl Town Hall 1:30 2:30 pm Leamington Town Hall 3 - 5 pm Oak City Church House October 19 Women's Cancer Screening Clinic Delta Public Health Office for appl call 864 3612 October 20 Cancer Screening Clinic Fillmore Public Health Office for appt 74 October 26 Immunization Clinic Delta Public :30 a m & - 4:30 pm Health 9 November 4 Blood Pressure Clinic Delta Fublic 11:30 am Immunization Health 9 Clinic Delta Public Health 4:30 pm November 28 Delta High School Alumni banquet don't need a mammogram in my Family has ever had “1 no one breast cancer” It is true that family history is a risk factor for breast cancer If a woman's mother or sister has had breast cancer her chances of getting breast cancer double But 80 percent of women who get breast cancer have no family history All women need to take advantage of screening Janet Lindquist won "wurst" prize for her Talking Ham Sandwich an awful concoction of tongue eyeballs and it is though some judges presumed Spam took her word for it The dish may have drawn a lot of gnats but it didn’t draw many raves Janet won a Spam cookbook to assist her in future endeavors should she try this again Best costume prizes of Spam went to Beverly Eddington and Lauretta Jacobsen for their renditions of the Spam Animal A Spam sliccr was given to Barbara Pierson for her generous donation of 16 pounds of food for the food bank Those who had courage to answer the Spam Quiz each won a Spam bank and refrigerator magnets All Spam Jhizcs were donated by the Geo A Hormel Minnesota of Austin Corporation manufacturers of Spam Hormel also donated 500 cans of Spam to the food bank While competition was fierce for attendance during the day it is unfortu nate that more people didn’t take advantage of this unusual but odd event “I think for Delta we got a good turnout” said one spokesperson for the food bank “This year wc made money” There is a possibility that the food bank will attempt to draw more people Or maybe to next year’s this will be a “flash in the pan" event The jury is still ouL Winner of the Spam Quiz Is Alice Van Dien who needs to claim her prize at by contacting Kate Hellenbrand as soon as possible Many thanks to those who donated and helped with this project including the boardofCUFS the staff at the While Sage Recreation Building IGA and the MilQuality Thnflway lard County Chronicle Progress the Geo A Hormel Company Ace Hardware FYincipal Bassett at Delta North Elementary Neil Forster and his crew the Hoclzlc family and any others too numerous to mention Meadow Misfits a unique musical group that specializes and old favorites perform at the Call Kate standards a scene from the Old South students of Millard High School storm up the street to "burn the bunny during traditional pep rally before Homecoming game with rival Delta High winds and inclement weather prevented the burning at the Potato Bash Delta Date 743-451- 8 in Like Fillmore Reed Jeffery Got a News Tip?
