- Dear Editor I’m not sure can answer my own shall surely try bv questions But sans comparing it to a supermarket bread and other fixid staples It's my opinion that even as bread is the staff of life for the body a library can be considered the staff of life for the minds of a small city populace Thank goodness our little city of Della had Miss Ruih Hansen for a mayor with her love of bixiks and the foresight to see what an asset to Delta a public library tf you please- could lax supported deed be And time is proving her right Just recently two young mothers have mentioned to me the pleasure they and their children derive from a trip to the library even the library could be opened more hours a day and could use more bonks Maybe friends of die brary could meet with the City Council to urge that body's consideration of enlarging the budget Now back to my original question Smart ATV “What is a small city without a library?” It could also be considered a conglomerate of houses and people without a care the minds of younger citizens Could such a small city be saying “Taxes are tix) high anyway and the younger citizens can just fend for themselves” Such a small city could also be saying “Who cares about my past my future ’’“Will even have a future? and who will care if I have no future?” "Wish that the city administrators would consider my soul my heart and continue to place proper a It’s such the on library” emphasis beautiful beginning of greater things It equals new sidewalks another light pole and more parks I’ve put a few words in the mouth of the city of Delta Farfetched7 Not from where sit Thank you for reading this different sort of harangue only hope someone picks up the cudgel and goes for an even better library Sarah Inez Moody use encouraged rr FILLMORE Dear Editor With the increased use of our roads streets and mountains we arc writing to ATV (4 and 3 encourage "SMART' wheel) use Please please please1 Use caution when operating these recreation Just a reminder that we have worked extremely hard in Millard County to offer the maximum riding availability to everyone who wants to use it properly We have specific State Fed era) and local laws that need to be fol lowed in order to prevent injury and death A few reminders to Off Highway Vehicle enthusiasts to ensure your safely and 100 percent nding pleasure Wear an approved helmet' (Required 5 must by law to age 8 in Utah) Age have OHV certification to operate an ATV Contact Mark Trotter at the State house museum for training days Age 8 13 years inclusive must be accompanied by an adult (vehicle or another ATV) on city and county ap proved ATV designated streets Ridermustndeon the outer 4 FEETof the oiled roads (Not in the dirt or gravel ' ) when traveling on designated Fillmore city streets Follow brown white signs Speed limit with Fillmore City is 5 mph (not 25 30 40 mph!) Millard County Sheriff" s Office Utah Park & Recreation division Millard County Shari Ashworth Helmets must U worn by passengers! It’s not otien that I get to share with you exciting and important news But Uiankfully this week I can John Bradshaw is returning to Salt Lake City in September “Who’s John Bradshaw7" I hear you mutter John Bradshaw is smglehandedly changing lives all over the country I know he can change lives because he changed mine John Bradshaw was a professor of philosophy as well as a theologian for most of Hewas bright funny well liked And he was also miserable drunk He hisadulthfe took more comfort from die bottle than from Aristotle While he spent his days pontificating about God he staggered home each night from the local pub blitzed out of his brain He says he was a hypocrite But it is m a philosopher’s nature to seek answers and John began to search for die reasons why his life was so empty despite all outward appearances of success John did find answers and has for the past ten years has taken on die job of sharing those answers with others He has hit areal nerve Thousands have responded and John now enjoys a near guru status John’s books not only top the ten best seller lists he’s on talk shows he’s formed institutes and most importantly he’s filmed his lectures and spends a good part of the year traveling to cities all over America to personally conduct his workshops Human beings he states simply are made up of four spheres The physical the emotional the mental and the spiritual Each sphere has distinct strengths and weaknesses and they overlap each other as we go about our daily business Most people understand the physical sphere It’s the most basic We need to eat sleep and breathe Pretty basic stuff Tie mental of course deals with how we think and logically get from point A to point M and back again No real surprises here cither The spiritual sphere causes us to look to the heavens to pray when things go wrong (or right) to stare at newborn life with wonder Nearly everyone recognizes that all children carry this sense of awe within them though too many lose it by the time they reach puberty But the big one believes Bradshaw is the emotional sphere It encompasses how we "feel" about things and most importantly how we "feel" about ourselves The goal in life I guess is to be well rounded To look good to have maximum health to be mentally competent as well as to gain a degree of maturity while continuing a dialogue with the Divine Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it7 And yet how many of us succeed in getting it right? Very often becoming well rounded becomes lost in the shuffle of our lives and we wind up deficient in one area or another While these four spheres overlap and one controls dominates and interferes with the others interact You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out How many smart talented people do you know who can't get their lives together? How many people with potential in ways that confound and stupefy? How many people who seem to have everything to live for wind up with less than nothing7 Why7 There are many people who are little more than beautiful intelligent religious messes people who get into destructive abusive relauonshipx who spend theirmoney unwisely who torture their bodies with toxic quantities of poisonous foods and addictive substances John teaches that we have emotional needs that we try to fill up with inappropriate substitutes Needs like being loved for who we are chcnshed treated with respect and listened to fairly We carry these unmet needs far into our adulthood sometimes to our graves always yearning for completion never being meL Only by meeting these emotional needs will the wounds be healed and then we can become the well rounded complete human being wc have the potential to become But it’s hard work it hurts we feel like a txxib and a crybaby It can be done There are many ways People spend years in counselling and therapy and finally come to terms Some people take pills and simply battle the urges and cravings - the “Just say no" approach But there is a fast way a simple way a better way It doesn't cost thousands of dollars nor does it involve constant denial Sounds like magic? It is It revolves around this one man John Bradshaw and the methods he’s developed to help us heal His work isn’t easy to do It is painful - like any kind of surgery would be But it works And in my mind the choice is a weekend of intense pain and a lifetime of joy or a lifetime of pain with no joy That seems to be the choice for me Mr Bradshaw’s television programs have included “The Family" senes "Healing the Shame that Binds You” “Homecoming" and now "Fathcrloss" You have an opportunity to see if this work applies to you KUED is currently rcbroadcasting the "Homecoming” senes Sunday afternoons at 4 00 p m They will be showing the"Fatherloss” program August 18th and 25th The best news however is John Bradshaw’s return to Salt Lake City to conduct these workshops in person If I could afford to pay for everyone in the state to attend I would I believe his information is that important These workshops are relatively expensive but would he worth the pnee even it were doubled The effects are life and the benefits of breaking bonds of depression frustration and bitterness cannot be computed in financial terms Even tf you can’t afford the workshops the television scries is free I implore you to watch After all what have you got to lose?
