today They live in thf second house from the church in Monroe Join wildlife chapter By Dave Smith Conservation Officer Sportsmen who wish to have more impact on wildlife management in Utah beyond the public meetings of the Big Game Control Board and the Wildlife Board should consider joining local Wildlife Federation Chapters Many of these groups go beyond just meeting monthly to “talk" about wildlife issues Wildlife groups have provided much needed labor for many wildlife projects around the state Projects assisting the Division of Wildlife Resources in planting upland game cover for pheasants helping the Forest Service revegetate deer winter range and the Bureau of Land Management construct water developments on the west desert for antelope chuckars and other wildlife Labor costs are often the limiting factor on many wildlife improvement projects proposed by managing agencies Your participation can be very significant in the completion of these The DeluSUSC Invitational track meet turned out to be a very successful outing for the Delu High track team The state qualifying meet ram very smoothly Officials at SUSC were impressed that Coach Rowley could find so much experienced help just from the Delta area Coach Nyle Norris of Richfield commented that only Coach Rowley and Delta could host such a large invitational and keep it running ahead of schedule all day long When asked about his secret Coach Rowley give all the credit to the many volunteers who assisted at the meet Hunt recommendations By Dave Smith Conservation Officer There is no time more controversial for big game management than the period around the hunt recommendations the public meetings and finally the application period This year for the first time all of these meetings have been scheduled to allow the application period to occur at an earlier date One problem with this new scheduling is that recommendations h ave to be m ade prior to most winter game counts and before winter’s effect on game populations can be evaluated These management tools are still done and the interested public is encouraged to participate Every year on most deer herd units the Forest Service the Bureau of Land Management and the Division of Wildlife Resources participate in spring range rides Deer winter range and winter kill is examined and problem areas are noted There is often a lack of agreement on rang conditions and the need to have doc hunts to improve winter range at the public meetings All volved parties would benefit from participating in these spring range rides overextremely Seeing firsthand browsed winter range andor the resulting kill from a severe winter can be a sobering experience for those questioning the need of a doe hunt Basing your opinion on field observations rather than “gut feelings” and coffee shop talk is a much more professional method of getting your point across at any meeting Most range rides are scheduled for April Interested people whether they are sportsmen nonhunters landowners or livestock perm tees are encouraged to participate These Medical Center specialists are available at Delta Community Medical Center Call the number
