Show Millard County Chronicle Progress I Delta Middle School January 25 1990 Page 5 2 They’re the champs The enthusiasm and effort of David Styler’s home room class netted of the total needed for the new Apple 2S Professional Computer System Through the cooperation of the PTA and all the students in the school it was possible to raise the $2950 worth of quilt donations for the computer systems purchase To Mr Styler’s students goes the honor of contributing the highest number of receipts Jared Whatcott Jared Whatcott named Hoby Winner Kay Reece ner Kay Reece Miss Draper teaching one other science classes Talented artist joins staff Tonnie Draper received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Utah June 1989 Painting and drawing were her areas of emphasis She was awarded r a scholarship to Utah State University in 1978 Special recognition was given to Miss Draper when she was accorded the Euray Anderson Award in 978 and when she exhibited her art at the Gittins Gallery in 1988 Science and Arts and Crafts are currently being taught by Miss Draper at Della Middle School She has also had experience as a LPN Medication and Treatment nurse Midvale is her home town She graduated there from Hillcrest High as an Art Sterling Scholar and an Honor Student Jared Whatcott was selected as the 1990 Hugh O'Brien Award winat Millard High School Jared son of Mr and Mrs Bruce Whatcott of Kanosh is involved in many activities at MHS He has participated in football basketball and track He recently won a trip to Gtlifomia to see the space shuttle land at Edwards Air Force Base through his involvement in the Science Fair Jared hopes to go to the Air Force Academy and someday be an astronaut Jared is a member of the National Honor Society He has a 40 1989- - Delta North salutes Delta North Elementary is happy to welcome Mrs Karol a Reece aboard our Manstaff Mrs Recce is the Chapter on ager at our school She joined our December 1989 when Lynda Fife left our school to join Central Utah Mental Health Mrs Reece works with first through fourth graders in Math and Reading Mrs Reece was bom in Leipzig Saxony Germany She has lived in Leipzig Berlin Salt Lake City and Delta She has two brothers and three sisters Mrs Recce attended elementary and high school in Germany She has also attended business colleges in both Berlin and Salt Lake Mrs Reece has six children namely: Karl Mary Ann Lewis Patricia Rebecca and Michael She also has 16 grandchildren Mrs Recce worked as a bookkeeper and accountant in Berlin Germany before moving to the USA In Salt Lake she worked as a contact lens specialist Since moving to Delta she has worked at Delta Elementary Delta South Elementary and now at Delta North Elementary as an instructional assistant We are very pleased to have Mrs Reece at our school She has already endeared herself to the many students she works with daily We look forward to many many years of happy experiences with her as a team member grade point average Hugh O’Brien is a national leadership training workshop held in each state One high school sophomore is chosen from each school to participate Congratulations Jared By Brett Stott MHS Reporter Science Fair approaches Millard High School’s Science Fair will be held on Tuesday February 20 Anyone who wishes to participate is encouraged to The categories will be as follows: Behavioral and Social Sciences Biochemistry Botany Chemistry Computer Science Earth and Space Sciences Mathematics Medicine and Health Microbiology Physics and Zoology The Regional Science Fair will be held on April 3 If you have any questions please contact Mrs Roth at MHS Academic Decathlon Team pictured back row: Jeff Bennett Noel Jackson Brett Stott Tom Baugh Ryan Olsen R B Probed Stevens Mtzi Denise Wood Row: Front and Matt Fuller Tiffany Dudley Bobbie Lindell Julie Watson Shanna McVey and Annette Peterson Millard’s Academic Decathlon Team Hosts Region Meet lastic Ryan Olsen 2nd place Varsity Science: Ryan Olsen 1st place Thursday January 18 Millard High School hosted a regional competition While the for academic decathlon scores did not count towards state it was an exciting contest as five schools vied for top honors Dixie High School came out on top with the highest team score with Millard second Cedar third South Sevier fourth and Gunnison fifth Each team has been studying after regular school hours to prepare for the state completion in St George February 8 9 and 10 The region meet gave the schools a chance to practice their test taking skills in six academic areas: math science social science language and literature economics and fine arts Individual awards won by Millard students were as follows: Math: Jeff Bennett 2nd place Scho Social Science: Brett Sum 3rd plai Scholastic Ryan Olsen 2nd place Vasily Economics: Matt Fuller 1st plat Scholastic Ryan Olsen 2nd place Va sity Language and Literature: Dent Stevens 2nd place Honors Jeff 2nd place Scholastic Ryan Olsc 1st place Varsity Bobbie Lindell 3 place Varsity Fine Arts: Annette Peterson 2i place Honors Jelf Bennett 1st pla Scholastic Top Scholars: Jeff Bennett 3 place Scholastic Ryan Olsen 2nd pla Varsity By Jason Jacobson I M XI New music teacher Delta Middle School is privileged this year to have a very talented vocalist leaching the afternoon chorus classes Mrs Larsen has distinguished herself as a soloist with prestigious symphony orchestras as well as singing lead roles in several “Messiah" productions She has also been the conductor for adult choirs in Wyoming California and Utah Mrs Larsen expressed the desire to continue the fine tradition that Delta schools have for their choirs "I believe that singing is an ability that everyone can gain and use in their daily life and indeed throughout their lifetime" she said B YU gave Mrs Larson her B A Degree in 1988 She has taught private vocal and piano lessons for the past twenty years She resides in Delta with her husband John m Joe Jay Jeff Jacob and Joshua and their six Correction In the Jan 18 issue of the Chronicle Progress an article stated that John Ed- - by Curtis Simmons la’s been twenty years and DHS students of Delta High are now reviving the long since published literary magazine The pastmagazine was called “Mnemosyne" after the Greek goddess of memoryThe present editorial staff of the magazine are looking at changing the name"We just want to change it to something easier to pronounce” said editorial staff member Catrina Robison “We are really excited to be doing this project" said editorial member Tawnya Hamblin"! feel it’s important to give those writers and artists in the school an opportunity to show their talent" ' There will be seven different categories to submit to the magazineand who is currently attending Delta High school is elligible to enter their work The following are the different and their specifications categoric to one act music drama which is limited to one original composed' song fictional and non fictional stories up to four pages on 8x10 poems up to ten stanzas papertyped i tor SUSC John wards was slar P1 played for the College of Eastern Utah art and photography which must be of good quality The deadline for all entries is March 31 1990 Works will not be returned unless it is in the art or photography categories Other important rules are that all work must not contain anything vulgar musts be typed not all entries will be published and students must be willing to sign a copyright Please submit work to any member of the editorial board which consists of Robison Caleb Wamock Catrina Allisse Greathouse Alycia Kersey Curtis SimBringhurstDena mons Tawnya Hamblin or the magazine advisor Mrs Fuller Any of these people may also answer any questions pertaining to the functions of the magazine "It's a chance to have our work published and represent chit school We all hope to g've students more exposure to student literature" said Mrs Fuller The editorial board is looking at the middle of May to have the magazine finished and published Pictured: Ben Hunter Jim Wood Shawn Quarnberg and Cudis Stevens at the National FFA Convention Susan Topham Delta North Kristine Larson welcomes'student On Tuesday January 2 1990 two student teachers joined our teaching ranks They are Susan Topham daughter of Ken and Opal Topham and Kristine Larson daughter of Dean and Rosemary Larson both of Delta Susan and Kristine are completing their education at SUSC in Cedar City Kristine is working with the second grade in the class of Caren Nielson On February 2 she will transfer to the fourth grade and work with Nola Kapler Susan is working with the st grade class of Elaine Rose Kris was bom in Tuullahoma Tennessee and has also lived in Granger and Della She has one brother and 4 sisters She attended Delta Elementary and graduated from Delta High School In her spare time Kris enjoys swimming cooking biking and children When Kris attended our school she a wanted have to many years ago teachers class in the round room and she thought it was great fun!
