Class of 1929 is the first graduating class to meet in reunion after 60 years Fourteen of the sixty three who graduated attended a dinner and reunion at the Chuck a Rama on Highland Drive in Salt Lake City There were others of the class who were not able to attend It was a great reunion We read each others name tags put our arms around each other cried a little and laughed together All the graduates of those early years were invited Sixty eight were there Some with spouses some alone John Hermon “Red” Steele was the master of ceremonies Dorothy Bunker Baker paid tribute to Howard Dorius who died of a heart attack while going over last plans for the reunion Alvin Bishop of the Class of 1930 paid tribute to Dean Freeman Peterson who died in April Alvin and Dean Freeman were Engineers and teachers at the USU There were many reminicenses and stories well remembered There was a time an old farm wagon appeared on the top of the High School building No one took credit Fred Finlinson of addresses of a class after sixty years 1929 was a memorable year Herbert Hoover was the President of the United States It was the year of the market crash that was the beginning of the “Great Depression” It was the time we sat by our radios and listened to “Amos and Andy” and danced in the old Marsoni Hall to “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” and “Shine On Harvest Moon” for recreation It was the year when the Delta High School burned to the ground during the Christmas holiday burning all tlv equipment books and records It was the year we went to school after the burning at 7:30 in the morning for the High School and at o’clock for the grade school children Classes were held in the Hotel any place space could be found It was the year the graduation exercises were held on the stage of the old Delta Theater The reunion was great It was filled with memories Memory is a gift After another ten years the survivors in plan to meet again probably Dorothy Baker's living room by Mary Henrie
