Since long distance rates have historically subsidized local rates the FCC is ordering an increase in local rates all telephone Beginning December subscribers nationwide will see a 60 cent increase in the customer access line The access line charge will go charge from $260 per telephone line a month to $320 per line per month The charge local helps telelphone companies recover fixed costs of their equipment Contel State Manager Aloa Stevens said “The access line charge is a tool the FCC is using to make local service rates better reflect the cost of providing the service” All Contel customers
