Show 4 - Millard County Page USPS Thurs May 19 1988 Highlights of the County Commissioners’ meeting West Millard History The following items have been selected from the minutes of the Millard County Commissioners’ meeting April 26 1988 Present were: Warren E Jensen Chairman Abner Johnson Michael R Styler CommisMarlene Whicker sioners County Clerk Warren H Peterson County Attorney Robyn Pearson Administrative Assistant Commissioner Jensen reported that he had visited the office space proposed for the extension in the Delta City Building The directors of the Extension Service don’t feel that the space would be acceptable Commissioner Johnson moved that the space available at the Old Quality Market building in Delta be rented for the Extension Service Motion seconded by Commissioner Styler all voting aye Commissioner Johnson said the Central Utah Mental Health Department was operated and managed with better control than the Timpanogis Mental Health Center He expressed concern that the Commission should review the Central Utah Mental Health continued Department to provide surance that the recent publicity regarding problems at the Timpanogis do not affect our local Center department Mr Matt Pace from the Six County Commission met to update the Commission in the weatherization program for the needy and elderly He reported that they have spent 4 months in He indicated that Millard County there will be another drive for the needy who could be helped Commissioner Styler noted that the Fire District has made changes in the allocation of funding They have determined that the previous formula used (the IOWA formula) was not fairly meeting the needs of each department The District has arrived at a new formula to meet the funding needs of all the departments in the district Mr Joe Austin from Utah State an University discussed the matter of Extension Agent for the Delta area Commissioner Styler will be the comcommissioner assigned to the selection mittee to review the applicants for this position Commissioner Johnson asked for a status report on the State vs George Wesley Hamilton case Attorney Peterson briefed the Commission on the status of the case A discussion was held concerning a request from Lynndyl town to use the Millard County Planning and Zoning Commission to assist in preliminary assessments of the amendments to the Lynndyl Town masterplan and zoning ordinance Lynndyl town requested the of a zone assistance in anticipation Enchange request from Rollins vironmental Services to allow a hazardous waste incinerator to be built The Commissioners wanted to limit Millard County’s role such that the County would not interfer with the decision of Lynndyl making responsibilities town officials At the conclusion of the meeting Atthe Interon torney Peterson reported mountain Power Agency tax negotiations The Commission gave further to the Millard County structions Negotiating Team American Legion plans Memorial Day rites and MEL GRANT EDNA with an unknown customer WM Historical in the D Stevens Store in 1938 Society news The first season of monthly programs arranged by the West Millard Historical Society ended with an outstanding presentation in Hinckle' May 12 Linda evening Thursday Ekins showed a video made from earfarly home movies footage of In film shot by Hon min'? techniques Cropper in 1947 thrashing of seed and harvesting of hay with horses and haying crews was seen The old film had been transferred to a video cassette by David Ekins Rodney Wright gave a detailed story of the earliest schools in Hinckley Many people in the audience remembered the schools of which he Summer plans for the Historical include on Day weekend a presentation of old area photos in the old Delmart Building The Historical Society will also be :nvolved with the antique show and memorabilia display which will be presented during Great Basin Days on June 17 and 18 Anyone who would like to contribute an artifact or a collection for display at this time is urged to contact Ruth Rawlinson at the Chamber of Commerce or or Roger Dorothy Killpack at in Oak City Anderson We will also need some volunteers to sit with the display on the June dates as well as May 27 and 28 Ruth Rawlinson displayed some sample history books in Hinckley and talked to people about writing up Society and different annecdotes spoke brought a sparkle to many eyes Some slides of early Hinckley were shown and then good reminiscing and visiting followed with punch and cookies biographies on folks active in our area now These people may not feel they have “done anything yet” But they are raising families now have jobs and terests and perhaps businesses in the area In years when the West Millard History Book is in library shelves and in home book cases it will be good to have your story for your grandchildren to see If it isn’t there someone’s grandchild will probably ask “Why isn’t grandpa or grandma in this book?
