23rd Gilbert Stott and Betty Mae Labrum along with Dean and Evelyn Mallet took off for They headed to the points south Capitol Reef National Park through Hanksvillc They traveled on the Bicentennial Highway over Hite Crossing on the upper end of Lake Powell then on to the beautiful sight of the Natural Bridges Going through and Monticello to Moab they stopped for the night The Mallets stayed in a motel while Betty Mae and Gilbert went to the home of Vickie and Clayton Allred and enjoyed the evening with their family The next day took them to Dead Horse Point (such a descriptive title!) and Green River where watermelons were purchased to bring home An interesting and scenic outing for this time of year The Boy Scouts of the Stake braveFall Campout ly went on an on the 26th and 27th above Adelaid Park in the Kanosh Canyon Our Ward took Jason Leader Lynn Labrum Justin and Ryan Talbot Spencer Robison and Dustan Starley to parThe boys ticipate in this adventure were working on their Wilderness Survival Award and had to construct a tent of their own design using whatever was available Our boys were so thrilled that even with flashlights the others could not find their tent made of branches and sticks Not to be outdone the girls of Meadow Ward with their leader Hare entertained the long term care patients at the Fillmore Hospital 27 After on Saturday September the room with colorful decorating balloons they sang with guitar accompaniment played piano solos put on a puppet show recited poetry and in general scattered a lot of sunshine which was their theme After the show the girls went up to the rooms of patients who had not been able to attend downstairs and sang for them All patients were given a specially made sunshine bean bag and a sack of goodies The girls enroute to Mesa Arizona were his John and llene Cooper parents Yolanda Rogers Mildred Pikyavit Willard and Dathel Whitaker and two of Johnny’s sons Rhett and Code In Enoch they picked up Mildred’s mother Niola Zuniga who traveled on with the group! They stopped in Hurricane at the home of Johnny’s for a Clark and Bonnie Campbell short rest and also to let his sons off to join their mother Janet and older brother Cole who had arrived earlier and planned to spend the three days in Hurricane with Janet's parents Going and coming Johnny enjoyed looking up and visiting a few minutes with friends he had made in the mission field in the area where he worked with the Navajo Indians He looked for excuses to use the Navajo language and took every opportunity to strike up a conversation with Indians he hadn’t met before thus making new friends Early Saturday morning the Utleys took Helen to St George with them to go through a session at the temple Lora and Helen’s sister works in the temple but they didn’t get to see her On the way back they stopped in BenLeeds where their grandfather jamin Joseph Stringham helped settle the town of Leeds Benjamin oseph named it Leeds after Leeds England where he served his mission He was the first Bishop of Leeds and they saw the tithing bldg that was built at that time They also saw where Stanley Roberts lives He is the Mayor of Leeds They went on to Cedar city where they attended the 50th Wedding Anniversary party of Helen’s sister and husband Leola and Dell Bryant All five sisters were there Helen spent the night in Flowell Saturday night before returning home Sunday Arizona in Chand Arriving Viola and olanda were Mildred guests of the Whit fie' is Guests of Curtis anu Cindy (Cooper) Black in Chandler were the Coopers and Whitakers who were treated royally The Cooper family are such a close family There were tears of joy upon their arrival and tears of sadness at their parting llene and John spent the day (Tuesday) with their daughter Cindy and family and Yolanda tended
