Show ABRAHAM Phyllis Johnson Ph: Sutherland 1st Ward held their annual Ward Day on August 17 Activity Chairman Carl Oliver was in charge of the day A fire lighting ceremony was held at 6:00 am in preparation for the Luau The usual Bishopric Breakfast was served at the park from 7:00 am to 9:00 am At noon Carl and his helpers put two whole pigs and 100 pounds of potatoes in the fire pit to cook for the Luau In the afternoon the Primary had their parade then Greg Allen the Magic Man entertained the children The pit was uncovered and the meat and potatoes along with salads fruit and melons were served Everything was delicious and was enjoyed by about 200 people Tonoko Urita from Tokyo Japan has spent the last month with the Von Tenney family She was here on the Language Exchange Program Marilyn and Loretta Tenney took her to Grand Canyon and she went on a tour of the Eureka Mining area Five Japanese students were on the tour She went to camp in Oak Creek Canyon Pat Peterson and Marilyn Tenney were chaperones for the Club Super Sewers at Camp in Oak Creek Canyon They were gone three days The girls who attended were Loretta Tenney Tonoko Urita Jan Petersen Christine Peterson Amy Ruth Engle Charel Lynn Brunner Hatch and Adelle Petersen The Abraham club won the Best All Around Banner Paul and Marilyn Johnson recently spent 8 days at Blue Mountain near Monticello where they attended a Wood Badge Scout Leadership On the way home they visited the parks and went to St George to see thier Jeri daughter Ida Tolbert and her children moved into their new house last Friday They have been staying with Cleone Tolbert while they were working on the house The Tolberts are moving here from Baker Nevada Ida’s parents have been here to help them get settled Maxene Owens had knee surgery on Tuesday As of Friday she still doesn’t feel too good Hopefully by the time this gets in the paper she will be well enough to come home Tom and Sandy Tenney came from Logan to spend last weekend with Von and Marilyn Tenney and girls They also attended the wedding receptioon for Kenneth Craig Cox and his bride Janet Elaine Also here for the Cox were Bob and Bonnie reception Droubay and children John Mark and Bob Bonnie and Autumn Autumn stayed and attended church in Sutherland Kathleen Goodwin and sons Bob Fred and Micheal arrived last Saturday from Eagle Creek Arizona They will spend two weeks with Kathy’s parents Earl and Afton Peterson and other relatives in the are Lynn and Cozette Petersen are moving back from Ely where Lynn has been working on the power lines Owen and Alice Benson have sold their home in Sutherland and moved to Central where they will be close to their Gloria and her husband daughter Clair Gubler They will really be missed We hope they will be happy in their new home Our loss is Central’s gain Joe and Eloise Liddell and children will be moving to Manti soon Joe has been working there for sometime They will also be missed This family has Gladys Loveless were in Draper Sunday to attend a missionary farewell for their grandson Barry Loveless son of Mr and Mrs Duane He entered the MTC on Loveless August 22 He will go to Madrid Spain On she lives in has been sold She will probably move next to her daughter Barbara Marstella and husband Dick The Marstella’s are moving into a new home Trula Abbott returned home August 22 from a nice vacation Her cousin Dora (Franklin) from Tankersley Phoenix brought Trula’s sister Flora Clayson from Henderson Nevada On August 12 the three of them left here and drove to American Falls Idaho where they stayed with Trula and Flora’s brother Charles and Thelma Cary The next morning they went to Pocatello where they had breakfast with Jack and Lola Rassat Lola is Flora's daughter They went through Yellowstone Park and stayed with Dora’s daughter Maxine and Charles Faust Dora’s grandson Jeff Faust went with them and they went to Rapid City South Dakota In Rapid City they visited a cousin that Trula and Flora had never met Her name is Elma She was really surprised to have them come They visited Mount Rushmore and other points of interest They drove to Keystone where they stopped for the night A hailstorm came up and broke the windshield and put dents all over Dora’s new Bronco They went back to Gillette and then to Evanston and arrived here August 22 Dora and Flora left Friday morning to return to their homes They will visit Mrs Doyle Franklin in Kanab Bernard and Nella Jackson and Scott and Barbara Callister and children spent a few days at the cabin at Fishlake this week Ray and Car Hoelzle and granddaughter Brittany Hoelzle recently returned from Cave Junction Oregon where they visited Dr Joe and Jennifer Hoelzle and their new baby son Kyle Joseph A week ago Gladys Tolbert brought Margaret Taylor from Orem to spend a couple of days She stayed with Sherm and Gladys and with Stewart annd Ann Taylor Quite a few of the neighbors and her relatives stopped by to see her Margaret has been in Orem at the home of her daughter Sandy Rasmussen part of the summer A few weeks ago she flew to Elko Nev to a few with Millard and spend days Margie Sherril Margaret has
