Subway has had its share of CodyEckman Boasting establishments 's like the Backyard Grill, and Wok... Your Way, the Red Rock Cafe is the lunch stop of many students at Dixie State University. The Red Rock's newest addition is Subway, which as an outside franchise is the first of its kind in the cafe. Student reaction has been positive, Revenue Center Coordinator Virginia Bundy said, which prompts the question are more franchises to follow? The overall feeling from our dorm students and people on campus is excitement, Bundy said. When the surveys went out to see which franchise students wanted on campus, Subway was No. 1. With Subway being considered such a success, other franchised dining options are being considered, Bundy said. Martin Peterson, director of dining services, said if construction on a new franchise doesn't start by May 15, it won't be open in time for Rebe-lano- The first-ye- ar college experience is supposed to be one of the best years of a persons life, but freshmen across the country are saying that isnt so. The Higher Education Research Institution released a cudy fitted The American Freshman that surveyed roughly 150,000 e students in 227 and universities colleges across the country. According to the study, which is first-tim- e, full-tim- repeated annually, freshmen felt more depressed and spent more time on social media than they ever had before. Students who participated in the study were asked how they would rate their emotional health. The of students who they would rate their amount said emotional state above iver-ag- e dropped to almost 5 ' percent, which is the lowest recorded. Around 10 percent of students said they frequently felt depressed. A students state of wellbeing can have an impact on his or her school work, the study shows. Students who ranked themselves low on emotional health reported showing up to class late and sometimes falling asleep in class once they got there. They typically felt less satisfied with their college experience and struggled to develop a sense of belonging on campus. Ever since its appearance before fall 2014 semester, the popular fast food chain restaurant has been favored among Dixie students. DixieSunDixie.edu DixieSunNews success. We haven't seen a huge increase of students eating at the Red Rock , but we're seeing students move from eating at the grill or getting pizza to ordering at Subway, Peterson said. We're excited that students are getting excited about it. Employees who work at Red Rock echoed Peterson's sentiments. Students either stop at the grill or Subway, said Rebecca Gonzales, a freshman general education major from Boise, Idaho, and employee at the Red Rock Cafe. Those two options are the best. n If students live in Towers or Shiloh Hall, they're required to purchase a meal plan. Others who hve near campus or spend a lot of time on campus might find dining to be convenient.
