Spider-Mawhich aired from 1994 to 1998, and Batman: The Animated Series, which aired from are two good examples of this.. d Besides comic cartoons, I am to think of d carany other U.S. made toon, excluding comedic cartoons like The Simpsons and Family Guy, that arent just made for character to get kidnapped to develop their stupid, simple plot, and they know kids wont be critically thinking about why it is dumb that it children. Even some comic book cartoons are just pointless. Ive tried to sit down and watch shows like Wolverine and the but the simple, and often too predictable, plot lines just bug me. Usually when Im watching a show like that I am just thinking things like, Why are they just standing around while that character is kidnapped? The only answer I can come up with is because the writers wanted the non-sensib- le n, 1992-199- 5, book-base- hard-presse- -- n, happened. Other than a couple of gems like Advenwhich is ture Time made for kids but has a unique innocent humor with a demented twist cartoons made for kids are just straight up trash now days. While trying to watch Adventure Time on Cartoon Network, I see the most ridiculous and shows like The Amazing World of Gumball and just feel bad for our young ones here in the States. The animation looks like drew on some photographs of random boring stuff, and the characters are things like fish with legs. I lost interest before I even knew what it was about. I realize it is con- sidered nerdy to like Japanese animation, or anime, but the Japanese at least got a couple of things right. Japan Maybe their art style is a little different, but many of their shows have ongoing story arcs and dont just start and end each episode. The humor can be ridiculous sometimes when their already exaggerated facial features are exemplified tenfold when a character in the show reacts to something, but the shows tend to have more mature themes. Even a show like Naruto, which I consider a little more juvenile even though I am a fan, has some surprisingly emotion-stirrin- g parts of the show. Judge all you want, but if youve seen it, then you know whatlm talking about. Also, if youve ever seen a Hayao Miyazaki film, then you know that animation is full of potential. Ive enjoyed all of his films Ive seen, and some of them, like Ponyo, are just as much for children as they are for adults kind of like Disney shows. But my favorite movie of his is Princess Mononoke, and it has a PG-1- 3 rating because of its more serious content. But I have been noticing some changes in the American attitude toward animation. Avatar: The Last was an American cartoon with Korean animation. Each episode built off of the last, and it ended in an ultimate showdown. I wish there were more animated TV series like Avatar. But lately Ive really been impressed with the DC Universe Animated Original Movies, especially the ones concerning the Batman universe. I hope see more animated movies from DC. So fellow Americans, I encourage you to watch, moie cartoons. Start with Batman: Year One, then do yourself a favor and watch a Miyazaki ' film if you havent yet.
