Show Hi- 10- -- WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 20 IQ LIFESTYLES DIXIE SUN True Rebels confess kissing legend still lives on BY MARK GREEN Editor-In-Chi- ef The Rebel moniker has been lifted from this campus, but Dixie State College students can still earn the True Rebel title by getting their lips and feet wet kissing someone in the fountain at mid- night. Well, not just any old midnight. For the aqua-kis- s to count True Rebel hopefuls need to make sure it happens on the night of Homecoming, the Dance or the a full moon. of night The next full moon isnt for a few weeks, so, for those who dont mind kissing in front of other ek 1 folks, Saturdays Homecoming Dance presents the earliest chance for DSC students to join the ranks of True Rebels. Jessica Baird, a junior physical therapy major from Roy, chose to take the full moon route to Rebel hood. Baird said she wasnt sure if her date for last years Homecoming was planning on making her a True Rebel or not, so she took matters into her own hands. After blindfolding him and driving him around town to disorient him a little bit she drove to campus and made him plug his ears as they walked to the fountain. I told him to take off his shoes, she said, and he was like, What? L As Homecoming Week comes to a close darkness falls on the fountain and couples gather within its waters to take part in a timeless traditional show of Dixie Spirit. True Rebels must kiss in the fountain at midnight in order to gain the infamous title. What? Why? And I said, do it, just do it.' And we got in the fountain and took off the blindfold and I was like True Rebel." dont remember if I I asked her, or if we both just took off our shoes and got in the fountain, he said. And then we kissed. And I dont know, because the water... was so cold, but the kiss was still good. Lane said he and his date went to the dance with another couple, and he said his friend was too scared to kiss his date. Lane said he thought his friend was crazy because the girl was beautiful, so he asked his date if he could make the other girl a True Rebel. After gethe set ting the go-ahe- ad ships are more complicated than that. She said she knows she sounds like a cynic, but she wished any potential True Rebel couples good luck. Still, she has no intention of pursuing the title herself I wouldnt want to ruin my shoes, she said. Students have until Saturday to find a partner in crime for True Rebel stag tus, and members of the True Rebel club shouldnt be afraid to consecrate the ceremony for a second time. I consider myself a double Rebel, Lane said A True Rebel squared. weekend. Romberger said she thinks things like True Rebel night are important for schools because they make them unique. Beverly Jensen, a general education major from Toronto, is a self described realist who had never heard of the True Rebel legend. When she was told the specifics she didnt share the enthusiasm of other students. I think it lends itself to romanticism, she said. Its a little bit of a fan- out to bring another member into the True Rebel date. Baird said she loves the fact that in a brave new Red Storm world students can still call themselves Rebels. "'Cause who doesnt want to be a True Rebel right? she said. Its a tradition, and if you have someone that is important to you in that way, whatever that way may be, you want it to be with them. Josh Lane, a junior biology major from Cottonwood Heights, chose the Homecoming Dance last year as the night to earn his True Rebel stripes. He also helped two girls become True Rebels that evening, starting with his fold. So I just dragged this girl into the fountain", and I dipped her and kissed her, he said. And it was the funniest thing. Gina Romberger, a junior general education major from Meadow, isnt a True Rebel, but shes practiced the ceremony. I have kissed in the fountain with my husband before, she said. We were just playing and he pulled me into the water. She said she works on Saturday, but she and her husband hope to become official True Rebels this r If r TOP 1 of tasy.
