The pageant has a budget, Rose said, and needs to attract as many viewers as possible to break even. The premise of the play is novelist Charles wants to learn about the occult for a novel he is writing. He holds a dinner party with his wife, Ruth, and another couple so he can invite kooky Madame Arcati to perform a seance at his house. I do not wish to spoil any moments for an audience member who has yet to see the show. So suffice it to say during the show there are holographic techniques, comedic surprises and popping pyrotechnics. A few of my favorite moments during the production were during the two intermissions. Usually intermission is a time when nothing much happens on stage other than a Lee said she's con- vinced the judges made the right choice however She's going to take torch and carry it high, Lee said. However, during "Blithe Spirits" intermission the maidservant enters and begins to straighten the room as a good servant would. She is a comical delight. After the first intermission nothing could have ripped me from the second for fear of missing something hysterical. I give this production a four-sta- r rating for captivating me from start to finish, being aesthetically pleasing, and because I screamed out loud in the end. Blithe Spirit is a must see. Ruth does not believe Elvira exists until strange things start to happen around the house. As the show progresses the ghostly Elvira wreaks havoc for the household even unto death. I will not give up the ghost and instead will summon you to attend the show in order to find out how this spook-taculcomedy will end. Director Varlo Davenport chose to perform the play in the Black Box theater, which was a brilliant move in my opinion. The Black Box adds an intimacy for the audience that the large theater cannot provide.
