Even college students that have been living from ramen for the noodles and Kool-Aipast few months deserve a part in the gift giving and receiving this holiday season. Here are just a few ideas for a thrifty Christmas that can be thrown together at the last minute and will leave a little jingle in everyone's pocket. Put to work one of your talents, hobbies or skills. From photography to ceramics, find anything that's interesting and get to work. Gather together snapshots of the family, and voila, a family picture album. Jazz concert to be held Thursday BY CASIE NCNAUGHTON Dixie Sun Staff Wnter The 26th annual Wind and Jazz concert will be held Dec.9 at Dixie State College in the Eccles Fine Arts Center. This year the concert will consist of three organizations: the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble 2, and Jazz Ensemble 1. The Wind Ensemble contains 60 wind, brass and percussion players. Also, this year's Jazz Ensemble 2 is made up of younger players, whereas the Jazz Ensemble 1 is made up of the more experienced players. Director Gary Caldwell said "We want the students to know that we have an active instrument department Students can participate next semester if they wish to join." There are six to eight performances per semester, two of which are main performances, one close to midterm. and one toward the end of the semester. This year's Ensembles have played during Homecoming, with the 23 rd Army Band, and during the street parade. The concert will be playing 15 songs including Christmas pieces. Some songs being played are "Jubilus, One For my Baby, Charlie Brown Christmas" and Sing, Sang, Sung. The concert will feature players such as soloists Joe Allen, alto; Kylen Seely, trumpet; and Bryan Vick, tenor. The second chart features Joe Allen on alto sax in a bluesy ballad titled One For My Baby Caldwell continued The quality of the groups are better than average this year. It's open to anybody of all ages, said Kevin Smith, Tuacahn chief operating officer.
